Hey all,
Since this group was started job postings have not been allowed, and the intro text to the group specifically states that they are not allowed. Yet, I see job postings in the feed, and there is a "Create Job" link in the sidebar. What is the policy on this?

I clicked "edit" on the group and I don't see any way to dis-allow job postings. Unless someone knows something I don't, I think we're stuck with the node type being available.
I suspect people are just going down their list of groups and tagging ones that look good without coming in and reading the description of this group. When I was active before, I moved posts out of the wrong groups on a daily basis.
That said, I just had a look and see one of the postings is by webchick so, um, maybe I'm totally wrong? LOL! Given that, I won't mess with the postings right now but, if people chime in and confirm they shouldn't be in this group, I (or anyone with rights) can just edit them and change the groups they are attached to. There is a specific Jobs group if no other group applies to a posting so it can simply be moved there.

Yeah, since I didn't see a way programmatically to actually disallow job posts, and since I noticed another 50 or so have been posted over the past months with 838 people still managing to stay subscribed to this group, I figured what the hell. ;P I'm not 100% clear on where job posts fit into g.d.o now that jobs.drupal.org exists, tho.
I think we did initially ask the group to be job post free, but a) it requires manual intervention after the fact when everyone's already been emailed about it anyway, and b) I haven't seen any complaints.
So basically, I think go for it.

I read somewhere that they weren't planning on removing the job posting from GDO because JDO has a charge to post jobs and GDO is free.

We aren't planning on removing jobs from groups.drupal.org until jobs.drupal.org has a free option, which is coming eventually. That's still in planning, so it will probably be a while before implementation is done. But the plan is still to remove jobs from Groups at some point.
Silly idea, I know
If/When I see a job posting in this group I think I assume the post is offered by a 'friendly' place - not saying I expect a bias but a place where any candidate of any gender is treated the same as any other candidate of any other gender both during the interview process and any on-going work.
Not that it's just a random posting.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and removed the no jobs notice from the description then, since that is confusing as hell.
