govCMS is a new whole-of government website management platform that will use the aGov open Drupal content management system running on Acquia Cloud Site Factory to quickly build and manage Australian Government compliant websites. The training will be run by PreviousNext, the Australian Drupal training and development firm responsible for aGov.

Attendance is free, and while the course material is specific to building sites on govCMS, the skills learnt are transferrable to any Drupal 7 website.

Prerequisites: Australian public service employee. Experience using and building websites using systems such as Wordpress, Joomla, or HTML and CSS.

  • What is govCMS?
  • What is aGov? Benefits, case studies, common usages.
  • Working with aGov: Common concepts, adding content
  • Planning an aGov site build: What to consider? Roles and tasks? Documentation. Content modelling. User Experience.
  • Building dynamic content: Taxonomy. Working with Views. Users & permissions.
  • Working with Panels and Blocks
  • Design & layout.
  • Extending aGov: Module selection. Introduction to theming with the starter kit

  • A maximum of 3 students per public service organisation is permitted and there's a strict limited of 20 students per venue.
  • A waiting list will be maintained for non-public service employees should numbers permit.
