Drupal Drinks Dundee has joined forces with the Dundee MakerSpace to bring you "Web Workshop" - a monthly meet-up for people, of all skill levels and specialities, interested in web development and web technologies.

The format is a little different from your typical tech meet-up, with a short introductory talk about the subject followed by a longer hands-on practical workshop taking you through the nuts and bolts of the new and exciting technology and creating your very own “Wonderthing” ™ out of it.

This is a great chance to learn new skills and pick up pro-tips from new and seasoned developers alike. You will get hands-on and up to speed with new and emerging technologies.

OpenID

This month Wiktor Brodlo will be giving a quick runthrough of OpenID, how it works and how to go about implementing it for yourself.

OpenID allows you to use an existing account to sign in to multiple websites, without needing to create new passwords.

OpenID is rapidly gaining adoption on the web, with over one billion OpenID enabled user accounts and over 50,000 websites accepting OpenID for logins. Several large organizations either issue or accept OpenIDs, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Microsoft, AOL, MySpace, Sears, Universal Music Group, France Telecom, Novell, Sun, Telecom Italia, and many more.

What you need

  • A laptop with a coding environment
  • A drink (non alcoholic)
  • Knowledge of basic web development techniques
  • A ticket

Where and When

Web Workshop will run from 7pm - 10pm on the third Tuesday of the every month at the Dundee MakerSpace, Unit 3A, Meadow Mill, Dundee, DD1 5BY. This month's event is on Tuesday 18th November.

Easy for us Drupalistas - OpenID is in Drupal Core... Leaving us more time to develop last month's IndieWeb. Or Martin's drone.

I can't make it this month,

I can't make it this month, unfortunately, as it clashes with a birthday. It would've been interesting to learn more about OpenID as I've never used it before. That can be my homework instead :)

Catch up with everyone next month.
