TCDrupal Non-Profit Decision

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

In December, we put off the decision on forming a non-profit until Jan - with the plan of making sure that everyone had a chance to talk about it - and that we gave sufficient advanced notice on the meeting for Jan. However, the discussion really didn't happen and I've done a really poor job of coordinating and publicizing the meeting.

In consulting with others - there are two opinions on how to move forward.

1) Postpone again until February - so that we can make sure anyone who wants to participate in this discussion can be there and no one who wants to participate in the discussion is left out.

2) Get the decision over with at this Thursday's happy hour (while there is no particular rush on making a decision we've postponed it too many time).

My opinion was leaning towards postponing in the interest of making sure that no one is left out of the discussion. However, as I talk to people (I made a few phone calls last week) I'm getting the sense that there MAY not be much need for additional discussion.

Let me ask this - is there ANYONE that feels like we need more time to make this decision. Either because you need more information, have questions to ask, or because you would like to be a part of the discussion but can not attend the Happy Hour this week?

If anyone has reservations about making the decision at Happy Hour this week, I'd prefer to postpone. However, if we have broad consensus that this discussion has gone on long enough and we're ready to decide on Thursday - I don't want to stop that momentum.

FYI - my sense is that opinion seems to be in favor of us forming a more formal organization as long as we don't assume that this means taking control of our finances from the Drupal Association.

Here is a summary of what has been proposed: https://groups.drupal.org/node/449963

Anyone?

Let's do this right

I think this is a big enough decision that we need ample time for everyone to weigh in on this.

Let's set this up for February, and make the announcement now so folks can get this on their calendars.

I'll be there on Thursday

I'll be there on Thursday either way. I think there's some fatigue on this topic and I think it's getting time to move on, one way or another.

My biggest concern has always been about stewardship of funds, which means professional accounting and auditing. That's been de-coupled in the current proposal, which means I'm comfortable proceeding -- or not -- as makes sense.

I want to do it right. But, I'm also nervous about decision fatigue.

If anyone needs more time to discuss this - or can't be at the meeting on Thursday. I'm happy to postpone. But, I'm finding that most people seem to have reached a decision and that no one is asking any questions or asking for more time.

I'm sensing more frustration with the delays in coming to a decision and no feedback from anyone that we need more discussion or more time (other than you Wilbur). :-)

Does anyone else feel like they need more time or have additional questions/comments?

Let's decide

I'll be there on Thursday, ready to support making a decision.

Like Drew, my concerns about financial stewardship were allayed.

Looking forward to discussion and beer. :)
