Hi Oly Drupalites! I would like to offer to become the organizer of our local user group and begin to get our monthly meetups in the area going. I have emailed Ellen yesterday and have not heard back yet I assume that will happen. Nonetheless has not been too much activity locally and I would very much like to change that and begin fostering Drupal more in our local colleges and within area potential client users (state gov).

Please let me know if anyone has insight as to how to become an organizer of this group.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I'm totally interested. Would be interested in finding out what you think about when we should meet?

Awesome

We are open, maybe Friday afternoons? We are ex greeners both my wife and I. Do you think we can find a place to meet at TESC?

Nice to meet you btw David I emailed your d.org account on this point yesterday also!

Elaine, not Ellen :)

Sorry I missed your email! (Just looked in my gmail, maybe it got filtered?)

I'm sure we could find a place to meet here (Evergreen); I know SPSCC is using Drupal (and soon St Martin's will be too), so there's definitely an opportunity for get-togethers.

I've been interested on and off in getting something together, but my ability to be active that way has waxed and waned. I'll take a look at the group settings and add both Chris & Dave. :) Just picking a day, any day, seems like the best bet to me.

Agreed Elaine!

So sorry I am clearly more under the weather than I think! Apologies for mistaking your name Elaine!

Cool on St. Martins adopting. I checked out SPSCC and TESC yesterday it was not clear from the code either were still using Drupal. Usually you would see D7 in the head. But from the posts in our group, it did seem like each were at one time.

I know there are a few state agencies and DOT is about to convert which is huge. We have access to that mailing list also so can promote our meetups with the state web masters.

Do you guys have thoughts to share on that regarding the schools still using Drupal?

Anyway most importantly hoping to just begin to grow our local talent pool for sure and hopefully then adoption at the same time. Also just organizing study groups for the different tracks of the Acquia cert program.

Well sure availability waxes and wanes for us but this is important!

Sure do Friday afternoons work for you Jen? Also fyi I think your posts are coming in duplicate. And your time stamp is a day ahead :)

Yes, Fridays work for

Yes, Fridays work for me.

Everything glitched and would not post. Then it posted for every time I hit enter ~ Sorry about that!

I also have a conference room available just off the Plum Street Exit if you want something central and right off the freeway.

Fridays

Chris McGrath's picture

Hi Jen, no worries it seemed to be a glitchy day yesterday. Fridays sound like they will work for folks could we say like 3pm at TESC for now since David and Elaine are there? We also love an excuse to get out to Evergreen. Maybe we could say last Friday of the month for now for the meetup? Does that work for all who are interested thus far?

Happy Friday!

Hi All

Chris McGrath's picture

Is evening after work better for folks? We are discussing when the best time would be for all. Seattle user group does it Wed or Thur eve's. Let me know if that is better. Also David and Elaine let us know if that works for you. Hopefully we can find some more folks also! :) Happy Monday.

Times

Thursday evenings do not work for me. Wednesday evenings are possible. Friday afternoons are also possible. Would love to hear others preferences.

Friday afternoons could work

Friday afternoons would work

Friday afternoons would work for me. Evenings are doable but kinda tricky. I'm also up for lunchtime/brown-bag get-togethers. I'd be happy to do the room scheduling thing once we get set.

Hi Everyone

Chris McGrath's picture

Just wanted to keep the fire burning and say that we are fine with Friday afternoon, let me know if that can work. Should we do lunch or is that too rushed?

We are open to whatever works but would like to be able to meet and accomplish some things.

Our main goals are to just have general knowledge share among participants as far as technical challenges folks are facing and hopefully solving :) As well as to promote drupal to students so that we can hope to spark some study groups for Acquia certification.

That would be 3 tracks of course

  • Drupal Developer
  • Front End Specialist
  • Back End Specialist

We have Build a Module and Drupalize.me accounts that we can contribute to folks as study materials.

Hope to hear back and get our first meet going!

Chris

Friday afternoons work for me, too

Justin Burns's picture

I'd definitely prefer afternoons to evenings - my evenings are already pretty full! Friday afternoon seems like a perfect time.

Excited to see this starting up! I've been a huge fan for the last 4 years, and recently have been experimenting with it as a platform for APIs and Applications..

Can't wait to meet up with other Drupal fans and learn how others are using it!

Hi Justin, Awesome, that can

Chris McGrath's picture

Hi Justin,

Awesome, that can work and seems to be the consensus from the posts we have gotten. We just wanted to offer evenings similar to the Seattle group if that worked better for a larger group. But it seems we have to do some Drupal promotion in our town and increase interest!

So consensus is Friday afternoons 1x a month. Elaine and the rest of the group does last Friday of the month work for you and we can do a little promoting around the schools for the next couple of weeks to see if we can gather any further interest? Say 4-5pm at TESC last Friday of every month?

Feb 27, 4pm?

epersonae2's picture

That should work for me, although I'll be a little loopy from doing usability testing that morning. :)

I can get a space set up if that time works for everyone.

Great

Thanks Elaine very much appreciate that! Chris

Space location

Chris McGrath's picture

Hi Elaine,

We wanted to get the word out a bit about our User group meet on Feb 27 at 3pm

Any chance you can let us know what Rm # or location at TESC we can use so we can list that.

Can we keep it regular? As we were hoping to just put up a few printed flyers also in Comp depts around that advertised

"Last Friday of every month at"

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Chris

Event created, space still TBA

Maybe we can talk about this at the meeting, make sure that day/time works?
