More sessions talk

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

After Saturday's meeting there were several ideas bouncing around for intermediate / special-topic sessions. We have several open spaces, both half-hour and hour long, please post a reply if you'd like to do one.

Note: we specifically would like someone to do a session on theming, Claudio won't be able to attend.

Intermediate Theming Session

bladwin's picture

I would love to help with this presentation, but I'm afraid that I don't know enough of the technical [php, hook system, etc] stuff to lead it on my own. I was thinking that I would be able to show more of the "Here's your mock-up, here are the theme images .... etc," basically creating regions, grabbing the core tpl.php's that you need to start creating a theme directory, the info file and so on. I can do a lot from the design side of things, but not so much yet in creating theme functions and so forth. Maybe Adam from right sprocket could also help, and I believe Andrew had mentioned something about MindComet's themer wanting to help as well.

Just my .02

Theming Session

Hey Erik, Chris Mitchell from Mindcomet will pair up with you, he's great with php, hooks, modules etc + he's great on the front end development.

I'll send you his info tomorrow.

Maybe we can make the whole

Maybe we can make the whole thing a 2-hour session...?

I would like to see:
1. an overview of the file structure - where the .tpl files and theme functions live
2. Creating a theme from scratch (maybe use the Stark theme as an example)
3. Creating sub-themes (using Zen, then a different theme)
4. Using Firebug and Theme Developer (Devel) to locate the things you want to theme
5. Using api.drupal.org, Views Theme Information, possibly Contemplate
6. Using dsm() and debugging code to figure out the hierarchy of objects
7. Using the "Display Fields" screen in CCK
8. Theme settings API?
9. Gotchas - you can't include scripts and stylesheets in a _preprocess function (at least in D6)

Gap in the middle?

Maybe if we had the two sessions right before & after the 3:30pm break? Could do it that way, otherwise, other than first thing in the morning there isn't a full two-hour block of time available.

Shows how much I know - I

Shows how much I know - I think the plan is to meet up with Erik and Chris next week to decide what we should present, and how to split things up.

Something about Drupal 7?

damienmckenna's picture

Could anyone do a session on Drupal 7? There's lots of new stuff to demo, could easily fill an hour session between demos & some Q&A.

Any idea when you will have a schedule of sessions?

I am a new Drupal user from Indiana and as luck would have it, I am going to be down in Florida during the time the Drupalcamp is going on. I would like to what sessions you might have going to see if it would be worthwhile for me to stop in.

I am responsible for the web sites of two seminaries who are physically located in the same area and work together. They are Drupal users. In addition to general knowledge, I would be interested in anyone who has worked with OG or civiCRM. Both look like they might be of use for us.

Command Line Drupal

I'll do a special topic session on Drush and drush enabled/related modules.

memory limit

You should also show how to bump up the memory limit for running Drush commands (something I've ran into).

I am down for one session so far but let me know if you need me to take over another.
