Are there any plans to include the Paragraphs Modul to Panopoly

Are there any plans to move the Paragraphs integration from OA 2.3 to Panopoly ? (or is someone already working on that ? )

I'm not aware of anyone working on implementing Paragraphs integration for Panopoly. But making a "Panopoly App" which does this would be awesome!

The Paragraphs module itself

The Paragraphs module itself should work fine in Panopoly, so just download it and install it. By itself it doesn't do much...it's sort of like Field Collections. The power is in creating the actual Paragraph Types (like the Text, Media Gallery, Snippet, Related Content paragraphs in Open Atrium).

The problem is that those paragraph types in Open Atrium are mostly dependent on other open atrium stuff. Things like "Related Content" make sense in a Collaboration platform like OA, but not for a general purpose and leaner distro like Panopoly. Snippet relies on OA access control for sharing content with different roles and permissions (within Organic Groups) and also relies on new patches for adding revisions to entities that Panopoly doesn't have (or really need).

Even the Media Gallery is tied with the Open Atrium file entity access control that ties it to the node containing the files. So that just leaves the Text paragraph which would be trivial to just implement yourself on your own site.

Anything that adds additional fields to content types (like adding a Paragraph field) needs to be a separate App, much like how "Open Atrium Related Content" is a separate app in Open Atrium. This also typically requires the features_template module to control which content types get a paragraph field added to it.

All of this is really beyond the scope or intent of Panopoly I believe. We want to keep Panopoly as a lean distro that others can build on (like Open Atrium).

So while I agree with David that an App for this would be awesome, actually making this app useful would be challenging.

The paragraph module is a great extension to the Drupal universe. However, I faced serious issues with both Paragraph and Field Collection modules in multilingual environments, which make them a no-go for many of my projects. On the other hand, I did not test with the latest DEV versions of the two, the issues might have been resolved.

Thank you !

Thank you for your valuable comments and suggestions. I'll look into the proposed App solution.

@mazze: I see Paragraphs as a modern D7 entity-based successor to Field Collection. But in both cases, if they don't meet the needs for multilingual environments I suggest you go to those project pages and help contribute solutions. That's what open source Drupal is all about.

You are right

Thank you @mpotter for clarifying the idea behind Paragraphs, very interesting. I will test it again in a project to come, and I promise to report any feedback and help out with testing!
