Nice to see everyone again this month. Quick summary of some of what we discussed.

  1. Drupal South 2015, looking at the Gold Coast Convention Centre http://www.gccec.com.au/ as a possible venue. The GC is a great destination, close to the strong Drupal Brisbane community, and we have it on good authority that the convention centre has the best WiFi going! Unfortunately we only had a short time on this at the end of the meeting when Arthur and Sheena brought this up, however next month we'll dedicate some time to exploring the possibilities.
  2. Nice quick "where is Drupal 8 now" overview: https://www.ostraining.com/blog/drupal/drupal-8-march-2015/
  3. Drupal & Gov: Resource Guide: Launching a Government Website
https://www.drupal.org/resource-guides/launching-government-website - VIC State Library Website (with a fresh bit of paint) http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/
  4. Gold Coast Bar Camp http://www.meetup.com/barcampqld/events/186560502/
  5. Pantheon for agencies https://pantheon.io/partners/pantheon-agencies - it's free and gives you access to the amazing Multidev!
  6. We then spent quite a bit of time talking about Drupal theming vs WordPress theming.
    1. Generally it's easier to get going with WordPress theming, many free as well as premium theme available. Things get tricky/buggy when you need to add onto the theme, or build a complex theme from scratch.
    2. Drupal theming is trickier to get going with, not nearly as many free or premium themes available. However theme system scales well for more complex sites and is very well documented.
    3. Drupal 7 theming with PHPTemplate and render arrays can be funky, but it does work.
    4. Drupal 8 theming will be light years ahead thanks to Twig. Comparison of PHPTemplate (D6 & D7) and Twig (D8) https://www.drupal.org/node/1918824
    5. Squarespace is an ok solution for clients/friends with little or no budget.
    6. Flexbox is truly set to change the way we do responsive design.
    7. http://responsivewebdesign.com/ has fantastic podcasts about real world responsive implementations.

That's about all, see everyone next month!
