User group meeting

We hope you can join us for the next meeting of the Spokane Day-Time Drupal Learning and Co-Working Group!

When
Thursday, April 16, 2015, 10 AM to noon
Sign up!
Log in and click the "Sign up" button, if you think you will be coming. You will be reminded the day before. The meeting will be canceled if not enough people sign up by the end of the day the Monday before the meeting. You can always click "Cancel signup" at a later time if your schedule changes and you can no longer come.
Where
Spokane County Library - Argonne branch, 4322 N. Argonne Road, Millwood. Note change of room from prior meetings! We are meeting in the conference room. From the hallway, go into the library proper, past the checkout/information desk, take a right and you'll see the room on the right.
What
Learning and "co-working" time - bring your laptop, or watch on the projector screen. Come with a project you're working on, a desire to improve Drupal in some way (documentation, programming, design, marketing etc.), a question about Drupal you would like to get an answer to, or a desire to help others with their projects and questions. Or just come and listen and observe.
Who
Everyone is welcome -- the only prerequisite is having some interest in Drupal. This group is usually 5-10 friendly people, with experience levels ranging from novice to expert, so you'll fit right in. Because of the size of the group, you will have time to share something you've learned, or get your questions answered, or both!

Note: If you'd like to have a meeting at another time that is more convenient for you, please feel free to organize it! See http://groups.drupal.org/node/161584 for a Wiki where people have listed when would be convenient for them to have meetings.

Sign up now! Log in and click the "Sign up" button if you plan to come, or probably will come, to ensure the meeting actually takes place. The meeting will be canceled if not enough people sign up by the end of the day the Monday before the meeting.

I won't be there...

jhodgdon's picture

I won't be able to make it to the April meeting, but at our meeting today everyone said they wanted to meet anyway. Great! I've reserved the room, and Jon said he'd bring his projector. Shawn has promised to bring coffee. I'll see you in May!

If you need to cancel...

jhodgdon's picture

If for some reason you all decide you need to cancel the April meeting, please call the Argonne library and let them know. (509) 893-8260. Thanks! (And of course, post here a few days before-hand.)

Please post any subject you

cprofessionals's picture

Please post any subject you may want to cover at our next meeting (I might have to prepare a little - not like our Jennifer). And yes If you post a comment here with your subject, I will bring FRESH ROASTED COFFEE. Tell me if you want it ground/whole bean, and light/medium/dark roast. Be safe on your trip Jennifer!!

Or you can muddle through...

As you know, I don't ever have all the answers. It's instructive (I hope) for people to see the trial-and-error process when we all work together through a problem.

Like if someone says "Does anyone know anything about the [something] module?" and we download it and try it out. Or "How would you make a view to do this?" and we create one together.

I'm sure the meeting will go fine, anyway. There's quite a bit of Drupal and general Web knowledge in our group!

Just know we appreciate YOU

Forgotten items from March meeting

jhodgdon's picture

I completely forgot about these announcements at our last meeting:

a) There will be a LinuxFest on May 9, 9AM to 4PM, at SFCC - http://atclub.sfcc.spokane.edu/linuxfest/
We had discussed a while back whether we should try to do a presentation or a booth, but then we didn't decide anything... Anyway, put it on your calendar and consider attending to learn about other open-source ideas.

b) DrupalCon will be in Los Angeles this year, May 11-15 (4000 people from around the world, and loads of information) - https://events.drupal.org/losangeles2015

c) The Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit this year will be in Seattle, Oct. 24-25 on the UW campus (200 friendly Northwest folks and lots of information) - http://2015.pnwdrupalsummit.org/
I always go and present a session; I will also plan to go this year. Carpooling may be possible, as well as room sharing. Sign up now on the site to get updates.

I meant to bring this up as

I meant to bring this up as well. Do you have a contact for LinuxFest? Would you like me to get this going?

LinuxFest

jhodgdon's picture

They have contact information on their site... but I'm really not sure what we can/should do there. When I emailed them previously they offered us space for a table in the exhibit hall. I personally don't want to be there all day exhibiting though, and I'm not sure what we could show in an exhibit that would be interesting/exciting to people who are likely to walk by and spend a minute or two at the most.

An hour or half-hour presentation might be more appropriate, or even a longer workshop. But it's really hard to tell from their web site if they're even having sessions, presentations, or workshops, and although I asked about this in my earlier contact with them, I didn't get any answers. I also had asked to be alerted when they were ready for submissions and didn't get alerted about that either. So, I really have no idea what's going on.

Any ideas of what would be good to do, if we did put something together?

A little confused with views, pages, nodes, what the public sees and what the editors see? I also will share my experience on a persona case where I suddenly was not able to log as an admin and had to follow some password recover/recreation steps.

Tomorrow

Will see you all tomorrow. I am bringing my projector. If you have Macs make sure to bring your adapter cables.

Hello Amigos... I have a really bad cough and extreme headache today... though I would like to come... but then I think will be better if I avoid crows and close spaces... I wonder if is there any way the meeting gets recorded or live stream on skype? I hate to miss this one, and I hope you keep my coffe for next time!!!

I am serius about Skype or other live stream solution I am sitting on my bed and will participate.

Thanks for these meetings. This will be my first time attending. I've read the meeting announcements for a good while. I like the relational usefulness of Drupal and now have an opportunity to use an active Drupal website. I'm a novice with 'some' understanding of the insides of Drupal. I need a bit more to adequately update a Blog section on the site and a google map.
The Blog is here:
http://www.sierraclub.org/washington/upper-columbia-river/blog

The map is the URL below. Click on Map of the links List - Map - Calendar
http://www.sierraclub.org/angeles/pasadena

The Map link should go to here:

Help is much appreciated.

How'd it go? And May?

jhodgdon's picture

I heard from someone that the meeting went well on Thursday -- any reports of what you talked about and how it went?

I guess I should schedule a meeting for May... any thoughts on the big vs. small meeting rooms at the library, and restrictions on which week? DrupalCon LA is the week of May 11-15, so I'm thinking we should meet the following week (May 21, Thursday). Thoughts?

Sorry about the post being so

cprofessionals's picture

Sorry about the post being so late. Our meeting went the distance and had a lot to discuss.

We actually had two new guests to the meeting. Both were armed with specific questions about a project they were involved in.
- One individual was from the sierra club http://www.sierraclub.org/ that is completely run with drupal (GO DRUPAL!). He represented the Spokane county chapter and had some questions about his portal. We all assumed that the site was built on something like organic groups as he had limited access to his section of the site. Because of this, we had to defer him to contacting the administrators of the site.
- Our second guest had an issue with the media module, and its inability to add content without getting an error (something like invalid provider). I had remembered a project recently that I had the same issue but since it had been a while I could not recall the fix. After much time I finally recalled the "simple" solution. The Media module was just recently upgraded and you had to go into the settings for that module and just hit save. It then recognized the YouTube Provider.

I did try to reach out to the folks at SFCC for Linux Fest and offer our support. I have not heard back from them. I used the contact link on the Linux Fest site. I will give it one more shot.

I will try to be more diligent about the meeting note on our next one (please schedule the meeting room) Hope you are having fun! Travel safe and we hope to see you back soon.

May

May 21st works for me!

Which room?

jhodgdon's picture

Big room or small room for next time?

I think the small has been

cprofessionals's picture

I think the small has been working great... and thank you!

Big room or small...

LCozza's picture

I think the small room as well. Although the March Meeting was pretty full; add in two or three more people and it may have been standing-room-only.... large perhaps? Either - or. We'll make it work :)

Room reservation page not working...

jhodgdon's picture

I'll try to get a space reserved sometime soon for May 21st, small room will most likely be available (it doesn't tend to fill up at our meeting time)... but right now the web site for reservations is not responding.
