Hi,
I have been following the discussion regarding PM software and am glad to see discussion in my local (geographic) community. As a member of the community here online and in Portland I have a question I would like to ask about project management.
I am involved in a social movement in Portland called Fair Trade Music as web admin among, other things, and have begun trying to use the Storm Module for project management. Despite it being setup for software development, which this campaign isn't, I believe it is flexible enough to suit the needs of our campaign except for one key aspect, people can't be in multiple organizations. As a musician who is involved in the campaign, it makes it hard to do things like keeping track of tasking and who I am involved with in our projects. Also, having never done any software development I am not incredibly familiar with this type of tool and how best to use it. In reality this is about managing a social network, not a business, we don't provide any services for money per se. I'm honestly not sure what we could do that would require invoicing. At the moment we are using one huge ridiculous spreadsheet as a method of keeping track of who we are in contact with and about what but it is entirely too cumbersome and unwieldy for any sustained use. So my question is really whether I am barking up the wrong tree? Can any of the project management tools do what I am trying to accomplish? I am convinced that simply adding people to multiple organizations in Storm would do the trick but have no idea how to accomplish that due to my skill set. Any thoughts, recommendations or questions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Graham

People in multiple teams and projects in storm
Hello Graham,
Storm does allows you to put people into multiple teams and projects. Once you have added people to storm you can add them to multiple projects for the same organization. Check the permissions to make sure they are set correctly. I ran into a few problems with viewing different aspects of my setup and it was because I enabled new things but didn't assign them too anybody to use. :-) Hope this helps. Let me know if you get it to work or not.

It does allow people in
It does allow people in multiple teams and projects, but not organizations. The software development analogy is an individual working for both a graphic design firm and a programming firm that is working on a project. You're currently not able to select multiple organizations when you create that person (who is not a user) and have their time accurately tracked to both organizations for billing in storm. I have since gone with CiviCRM for my relationship management needs, it allows multiple, customizable relationships, and use storm just for task management since I don't actually need the billing and invoicing aspect.
post this to the PM group?
Hey - you might get more help if you join the PM group http://groups.drupal.org/projectManagement and then edit your post and cross post it there. Wish I had some experience with this so I could make some suggestions, but surely some of the other PMs in that group will have tried it!
Check out Open Atrium
Our firm used to use STORM for a lot of customer-facing processes on our site. The primary function was for doing support calls and billing them to clients. We've since moved away from this to a separate PM system internally, and a customer facing installation of OpenAtrium. Based on what you've said above, it might meet your needs.
