Tightrope has recently announced their commitment to Open Source Software by releasing several company intiatives as open source. This significant opening of the Cablecast systems means that three of the Open Media Project's beta partners (Davis, Boston and Amherst) are steps closer to integrating Drupal with their playback system.

Tightrope is extending its Web Service API beyond reading schedule and show information so that Cablecast customers can programmatically create shows and producers. This functionality will facilitate integration with Open Media Project allowing partners to automatically add shows from into Cablecast systems and to even schedule Cablecast to record shows directly from their system.

Two other projects of Tightrope are FixMpeg and DVDImport. FixMpeg is a simple front end to ffmpeg that will convert the audio format and sample rate in an MPEG 2 file (.mpg) to a broadcast standard file.DVDImport copies the content, unaltered, from a video DVD to a MPEG2 program stream file.

Tightrope also continues work on their application in support of the ACM’s Community Media Distribution Network.
