Monthly Pub Meetup Venue

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

We do our monthly pub meetup on the third Tuesday of the month, which is great! But quite often we end up shouting at each other in a loud pub, which isn't so great since we want to talk Drupal, not drunk.

At the last meetup (which was St Patrick's day, so it was unusually loud, even for the Eagle), we discussed maybe moving the meetup location, what does everyone think?

I'm out right now at the Seven Stars on a bit of a recon mission (OK, fine, I just wanted a pint) to see what's it's like on a Tuesday night. So far so good. There's people here, but still plenty of room for a group of us, and the music is at a decent level where shouting would not be required. This is the pub where we had the drinks after the Friday business day at the camp back in January.

Another thought is the Fountain Head, just down the street from the Eagle on North Road. Even though I live right near there, I haven't been in there in years, so I really don't know what it's like. But I do walk by a lot and during the week it doesn't usually look too packed. Maybe I'll check it out after leaving here.

I thought of the Seven Stars and the Fountain Head since they're not tiny like so many pubs are in town, they're accessible, and usually don't have blaring music. One downside to the Seven Stars is that it's right by the Lanes, and not far from the beach, so it could get busy in the Summer. But the Eagle is generally busy anyway, so I'm not sure if it would be much different.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Would anyone else like to move the meetup at all? Comments please!

my random thoughts/ideas:-

fave pub - battle of trafalgar - nice beer garden for summer meets too

in no particular order....

seven stars is probably a decent bet on the noise level.
fountain head can get a bit noisy
there's the Hampton arms which brighton farm use quite a bit - and the windmill near by - both of those are quite good on the noise front
three jolly butchers has a room at the back i think
also, that one up the hill from station

Thanks Alick!

OK, cool, there's a bit more feedback, but does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Our meetup is tonight and I haven't set a final venue on the event page, although I'm somewhat reluctant now to change it since it's pretty short notice. I was hoping to have a bit more feedback before making a final decision.

Battle of Trafalgar could be good for summer meets outside, as long as we know the weather would be nice, otherwise I'm not entirely sure about that one, I find it to be a bit cramped inside.

We'll get Fountain Head out of the mix, whenever I've walked by lately it's been really busy.

I'd rather not do the Hampton since the Farm is already there, that's just a personal choice. And I've found the Windmill to be pretty loud, actually and quite small inside so securing a table might be tough if they get busy.

I've only been in Three Jolly Butchers once, so I'd be up for giving that a try, especially if we can reserve the room at the back, but I don't know if they'd be up for that.

Seven Stars still tops the list for me if we want to move, basically because of the size of the place and the noise level is pretty low.

OK, one other person is good enough for me! ;-)

Yeah, let's do Seven Stars tonight, it'll be a good experiment to see how it works. I'll update the event page and if anyone can tweet or let others know that the usual venue has been moved for tonight that would be great.

I'll update the event page now.
