New website

Based on the Chennai Drupal Community discussions held on 8th April 2015 we decided to have a new site.

A site already exists at http://chennaidrupal.org. We'll need information on the following

  1. Is the current maintainer willing to continue maintaining this URL and will they be in a position to host a new site?

  2. We can replicate the features from the other community sites but I think we should list out, from our experiences, a list of must-have features e.g. Sign-up do we automate the creation of user accounts if someone sign-up on GDO? Is this even possible? Please think aloud by posting your thoughts in this discussion thread.

  3. I am keen on having the water drop have a chennai look. What do you all think? I am keen on engaging an artist to illustrate it so that we can use it as our mascot and logo.

I'm the current maintainer of the chennai drupal website ( http://drupalchennai.org/) Its owned by the Chennai drupal community only and shall be used.

Laundry list of features for website

  1. user registration and profile.
  2. organizations listing, something like https://groups.drupal.org/node/109614.
  3. meetup calendar, registered users can RSVP. just to track how many people attend each meetup.
  4. upcoming meetups
  5. archive of past meetups.

Rest of the stuff, like discussions etc can be done here at g.d.o.

Acquia cloud/Pantheon provides free hosting for Drupal groups. We could probably leverage that.

We could pick up slack, mailing lists etc on a need basis as we go.
