I'm trying to develop a presentation about accessibility and Drupal. The idea, posed to me by Mike Gifford (mgifford), is that it should be a basic presentation that many different people could give give at various conferences—Web camps, Drupal camps, geekouts, whatever.
So here's where you come in. I need ideas. Tell me about:
- The Core accessibility features you find most useful.
- Modules, either core or contrib, you find most useful in supporting accessibility.
- Other modules that have accessibility features you really appreciate.
- Accessibility issues you most wish could be fixed in core.
- Contrib modules that most need help with accessibility.
- Projects you've worked on in which Drupal has helped you overcome significant barriers to accessibility.
- If you have a disability, features in Drupal's admin interface that have made it possible for you to build websites.
- If you administer a website in which there are many different contributors, features in Drupal that make it:
- Easy for people with disabilities to contribute content.
- Easier for people who contribute content to make that content accessible. (I do want to hear about things Drupal does behind the scenes, but I'm especially interested in things Drupal does to steer them in the right direction when they have to decide what to do.)
Obviously, not all of that can make it into one presentation. But I'd like to gather enough information that we can build several different levels of presentations, or presentations that each deal with a separate angle on Drupal's support for accessibility.
So, what do you say?

I'd love to see something
I'd love to see something like this. I just gave a talk on Accessibility at the NYCCamp and would love to help out in this endeavor.
I'd specifically like to discuss designing the admin area with accessibility in mind. We (as WCAG junkies) spend a lot of time looking at the end-user and not so much at the content creator.
Great point!
Absolutely agree, @artfrick & @Cliff
This is a good direction to explore... wondering what the general interest in this might be?
Great idea
@Cliff, has there been any further development on this front? I'd like to get involved but is it better for me to start with a Drupal 8 core assessment at this point?
I went to @artfrick's a11y session in NYC and it was great. So glad he did a session and I'm hoping to put one together too for the next Drupal Camp NH. Thanks for inspiring me.
Geez, I wondered why no one responded...
And now I see that I had gotten out of the habit of even checking my folder for comments from g.d.o. Dang!
Short answer is that no, not much has been done here. We should focus on the accessibility support in Drupal 8 as the basis of a presentation.
And Cliff should start checking that folder every day again. Sorry, everyone—for a couple of years I was not allowed to participate in OS development, and I got so far out of the routine that I never realized how far I had strayed.
