Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi All,

Please put your views to organise Drupal Camp Delhi before DrupalConAsia (Mumbai). If we organise Drupal Camp Delhi before the DrupalConAsia, we need tentative dates ASAP. We will get DA support as well if we start the process early.

Tentative time frame - Oct-Nov 2015

Thoughts?

Not a huge deal, but this

Not a huge deal, but this means there will be two DrupalCamp Delhi 2015.

True - but DCD 15 was in Jan

gargsuchi's picture

True - but DCD 15 was in Jan for a specific reason - Megan from DA was here as a keynote speaker :)

IMO - We need to have DCD

gargsuchi's picture

IMO - We need to have DCD well before the DrupalCon else the attendance as well as the sponsorship will be adversely affected.
So Oct-Nov time frame really makes sense.

@hussainweb DCD which

gbisht's picture

@hussainweb DCD which happened early this year was supposed to be happening in Dec 2014. But because of Megan visit we postponed it to Jan 2015.

I think we can organize DCD2015 - Part II before Drupalcon Asia.

Why not in Jan again???

irfworld's picture

We can plan it in Jan 2016 again, as the DrupalConAsia will be in May 2016.

It is in Feb and not May!!!

Since DrupalCon Asia is

neetu morwani's picture

Since DrupalCon Asia is supposed to be in Feb, We should plan something around two months in advance. Late November sounds good.

What is the objective?

PriyankaTuteja's picture

Hi Guys,

Can you please help me understand exactly why we must have another DCD before DrupalCon?

  • Priyanka

My understanding

prashantgoel's picture

Hi Priyanka,

My understanding was DCD was happening every year but this year it shifted because of the fact that people from DA were visiting India.

So in reality DCD15 was stretched from DCD14.

So if we are planning a DCD15 sometime in Oct-Nov then we are following the regularity which was never broken.

@all: Thoughts are welcome if you feel it makes sense to do it.

Thanks

It seems people have taken my

hussainweb's picture

It seems people have taken my comment to heart. Relax, it was a joke. And it sounds like a fun idea.

I am just not sure about 2 months before DrupalCon. But if you try it earlier, then it would clash with DrupalCamp Pune.

Update: I miscalculated. Even if you go with Nov, it is 3 months before the con which sounds good.

I understand that part

PriyankaTuteja's picture

I am not sure about its positives since I am relatively new to this community. Hence, I asked you all to make me understand.

But IMO, we have to ask ourselves, do we need to do it? For any successful camp, we need sponsors, volunteers/organizers, participants, other resources, excellent sessions and a keynote speaker. And I feel we should dedicate all our resources and efforts to DrupalCon, Asia and try to make it larger than life. Instead of organizing another camp for consistency's sake or just for the heck of it. But I'd be happy to know/understand the connect b/w these two and how having another DCD before the Con would help.

  • Priyanka

IMHO, it is almost always a

hussainweb's picture

IMHO, it is almost always a good idea. There are a bunch of camps in surrounding regions near a DrupalCon NA or Europe. There are definitely logistic issues but they can be sorted out. I understand it might be difficult for sponsors and we need to recognize that it may not be as big as usual, and that's fine.

In the end, it boils down to the numbers and if it is still workable, then why not. In fact, a camp would help make the Con even bigger. It will wet people's appetites for a con and encourage travel, etc...

The only issue I see here is, of course, sponsorship. If that can be worked out, or expectations scaled back, then it is definitely a good idea. It is important to have regional community to not lose out just because there is a con later in the year.

Sounds reasonable

PriyankaTuteja's picture

@hussain: I doubt if anyone took your comment to heart. :)

The way you explain it, it makes sense. Yes, the sponsorships and expectations will need to be taken care of. But in the spirit of the community, we should do it.

  • Priyanka

yaii you are finally convinced.

prashantgoel's picture

Great Leap is already taken.

For sessions we already have Ravindra, Hussain and Suchi.

For Sponsorship you are always there to help. ;)

We again will like to see you as a promoter of DCD.

Thanks

Nov is the best time to have

singh_haneet's picture

Nov is the best time to have DCD, be it climate wise or the time frame before DrupalCon Asia. And we can utilise the Drupal meetups that we have every month apart from other activities to start discussions and planning for the event.

Best,
Haneet

Good To Have A DCD15

Good To Have A DCD15

Seems like a good idea!

siva_epari's picture

Yes. There should be lot of pre events to build the traction for Drupalcon Asia. Hope, we from Hyderabad would also like to contribute to building traction for Drupalcon Asia. We should co-ordinate to promote Drupalcon Asia as much as we can. We would be happy to host another event at hyderabad for promotion of Drupacon Asia. Logistics is a minor issue when compared to the responsibility of building traction for Drupalcon Asia.

I am also in favor of

Hi Everyone,

Happy Monday,

It was disheartening to see no one there for the meetup.

If there is any such agreement and people are not joining in please capture that here.

I will also suggest you all to take these meetings through skype or IRC unless we see enough of participation to take these meetings offline.

Thanks

Prashant, I guess, initially
