Start:
2015-09-26 09:30 - 16:00 America/Chicago
Event type:
User group meeting

Drupal 8 is almost ready! For a few moments (last week), we were down to only 3 critical issues. Since then the number has bumped back up into the teens. But with DrupalCon Barcelona coming next week, the chances are very good that we'll see some significant movement - with a release candidate in the very near future!

Let's celebrate by having a hands-on PLAY DATE with DRUPAL EIGHT.

This will be a great opportunity for beginners and advanced coders alike to get an introduction to Drupal 8 and start setting up a site of their own.

Anyone can spin up a Drupal 8 sandbox using one of several free hosting platforms and begin to play around.

TEN7 has agreed to host us and provide lunch.

LOCATION (firmly decided, ignore discussion about location options):

TEN7
718 Washington Ave. N - Suite 301
Minneapolis, MN 55401

PARKING:

  • Small groups working together to explore and test Drupal 8
  • Sprinting - for those who want to sprint.

I have requested a reservation for the Central Library - Mark E Johnson room for Saturday Sept 26th from 9a-3p. We can always cancel this reservation, but at least we have something as a fallback now.

Room Request Approved

Only one caveat with this space, no food allowed in the room. So we will be going OUT for lunch!

Who is coming to Drupal 8 Play Date?

stpaultim's picture

Drupal 8 is almost here.

We have 5 people signed up for the Drupal 8 Play Date (this Saturday). I know that more people are coming. Please, post a note to let us know that you are coming and what you would like to learn! You can also sign-up for the play date here on groups.drupal.org

(although, signing-up is NOT required to attend)

This Saturday we're going to get together to learn about, experiment with, and potentially contribute to Drupal 8. Everyone is welcome.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I plan on being there.

Is there a place where we can list questions we have ahead of time? I suspect someone there will have the answer to the one I'm thinking of, but if we can share questions before hand that might increase the odds of less common ones being addressed...?

Just a thought.

See y'all there!

Can't Wait to Celebrate at the Drupal 8 Play Date!

Hi All,

Although anyone is welcome with any skills, if there are those like me that like to hit the ground running and to brush up on and/or get a smattering of some of what we are going to be encountering, the fantastic Build-A-Module (and it's amazing instructor-founder Chris Shattuck) has a series called "Drupal 8 Developer Prep" where the first two "video chapters" and a smattering of videos beyond that are FREE.

So, come and get someone to explain it to you on Saturday, but if you are someone that likes to "study ahead" go to

http://buildamodule.com/collection/drupal-8-developer-prep

Either way, see you Saturday!

This is going to be fun!

stpaultim's picture

We went from 5 people signed up for the Drupal 8 Play Date at 6:00pm last night, to having 10 signed up by 12:00 this afternoon. I know a few more people that have expressed an interest, but are not signed up yet. I'd love to see about 20 people at this fun and interactive opportunity to work with Drupal 8.

A lot of freelancers and Drupal shops will probably migrate their own blogs and/or business sites to Drupal 8 before doing any client projects in Drupal 8. If that is your plan, why not come on Saturday and get started. Wouldn't it be great to start working with Drupal 8 in a setting with others that are doing the same thing and where we can all help each other out if we get stuck on anything?

We know that there will be a group working on Drupal 8 migrations. Do you have a simple blog that you want to migrate into Drupal 8? On Saturday there might be folks willing to help you do that. Do you just want to find out how Drupal 8 migration works? Now is the time.

Feel free to drop by at the last minute, but we'd really love to hear from folks who think they are coming - and hear what you would like to accomplish on Saturday, so we can do everything we can to support you.

Drupaled Out!

DaleTrexel's picture

I'd love to join you all, but tonight ends our summer marathon to update the U of MN Law School's website to Drupal. I'll be up late mopping up and making sure things that aren't in Drupal yet will remain accessible. As much as I'd enjoy poking at the latest version of D8, I think tomorrow will be as much of a Drupal-free day as I can make it.

Have fun, everyone!

Door code?

cosmicdreams's picture

Can't get in but there is a call box in the front. Should we put a sign in front with a number?

Apparently the door should open at 9 or 10. Call 952-843-3609 if you have trouble.
