As many of you would know, Microsoft is making a big push into the open source world with full support for LAMP stacks on the Azure cloud platform. Over the past few months, PreviousNext and Microsoft have partnered to develop a comprehensive suite of tools and managed services to host high performance Drupal websites on Azure. This means that government agencies with existing Microsoft accounts don't need specialist providers to host Drupal websites outside their core platform, providing significant efficiencies and cost savings in the process.
While aGov 2.1 (The version forked for govCMS) is already available for Azure via VM Depot, the focus has rapidly shifted to aGov for Drupal 8, recently released in Alpha on Drupal.org With Drupal 8 formally released on November 19, this allows government web teams to quickly switch to Drupal 8 for new projects, retaining full access to the code base and the flexibility to integrate with third party platforms as they choose.
In this lunchtime briefing on Tuesday November 24, senior engineers from PreviousNext and Microsoft will provide an in-depth session on best practices for getting started with Drupal 8 on Azure, covering topics including high availability architecture, utilising Azure add-on services, continuous integration environments and performance tuning.
