User group meeting

This month's Portland Drupal User Group meetup will be hosted by Acquia (1120 NW Couch St. Suite 630 Portland, OR 97209).

Agenda:
6:00pm - Pizza and social
6:30pm - Welcome
6:45pm - Presentations
8:30pm - Adjourn

We have two presentations lined up with ample time for questions and discussion.

  • Katrin Silvius will talk about what you can do with Dynoblocks module. Dynoblocks is a user friendly drag and drop page builder in Drupal 7 designed to allow non-technical users the ability to build and edit complex content without dealing with the Drupal complexities. For developers Dynoblock widgets are easy to build custom entities that allow to configure very specific field types and layouts.

  • Elijah Lynn will present PHP Performance Profiling with Blackfire. Let's take a look at Blackfire, a new spin on XHProf with a web interface to share profiles and comparisons. Blackfire was originally a fork of XHProf but has since been rewritten with performance in mind. It has no overhead so you can finally install it and run profiles on production. Blackfire has integration with New Relic, Github and general webhook support for integration with your CI/CD pipeline.

Bring your computer, we will be doing some profiling of our own using the example in the 24 Days of Blackfire book. The only thing needed is Chrome and the Blackfire Companion extension which you can get at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/blackfire-companion/miefikpgah....
