DrupalSouth Canberra 2018 - Call for session Track Chairs

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

As part of the planning for DrupalSouth Canberra this year I'm putting out a call for people to volunteer as Track Chairs to review session submissions and assist with speakers' preparation.

DrupalSouth will be held in Canberra in November 2018 - dates and venue TBD.

Volunteering as a Track Chair is an essential role that ensures session submissions are reviewed by discipline experts and selected to provide attendees with the best possible conference experience.

Track Chairs will help define the criteria of session submissions, assist with the call for submissions through their own peer networks, review and select submissions. They'll be assisted by the DrupalSouth Content Lead (Me) and collaborate with other Track Chairs to structure the final program. Track Chairs then work with selected speakers to assist with their talk preparation and coordination on the day.

A rough time frame is:

  • May: Track Chair volunteers finalised
  • June - July: Session topics and criteria finalised and call for submissions announced
  • August - September: Session submissions evaluated
  • October - November: Selected sessions announced and speakers assisted in lead up to event

Most Track Chair interactions will happen online with scheduled conference calls and forum discussions, so physical location is not a barrier to being involved. The total time commitment is likely to be around 15-20hrs in total over 6 months to November. Compensation for this time will probably be in the form of discounted or free conference tickets (TBD) and public recognition of your contribuition.

Track Chairs can still submit talks to tracks they're not managing themselves and are not precluded from other volunteer roles at DrupalSouth.

Draft Track Topics currently include:

  • Back End Development
  • Front End Development
  • DevOps & Security
  • UX & Content
  • Project Management
  • Showcase & Horizons

No prior experience as a Track Chair is necessary, but familiarity with DrupalSouth/DrupalCon formats is beneficial along with strong domain expertise in your preferred Track Topic.

If you'd like to volunteer please email owenlansbury@gmail.com and please use this thread for any general comments or questions.

Thanks!

Either way, be seeing you in Canberra in November!
