Event type:
User group meeting

Many times we focus on how to present content to end users, but this time, we'll look at challenges that Drupal presents to administrators or relatively privileged contributors and what people in the user group do to solve those challenges. We're looking for 10 minute presentations, so please sign up in the comments.

Introductions (10 minutes)

Presentations (6 10-minute presentations), which should:

  • Be web-accessible. No time for changing machines!
  • Provide a brief use case or description of the need being met
  • Show the problem and your solution
  • Be accompanied by a list of modules used in your solution and, optionally, the site.

Reserve your spot in the comments.

DrupalPDX update and General Announcements (20 minutes): An update from the DrupalPDX meeting.

Logistics

We meet at the OpenSourcery offices at 1636 NW Lovejoy St. Portland, OR 97209. NOTE: Please be aware that the developers at OpenSourcery will be working right up to event time. We ask that you arrive no earlier than 5:50pm. Thank you!

After the presentation finishes we'll walk over to the Lucky Lab NW for food and drink.

I can show how to use Publish

edit: I probably won't make it tomorrow after all...

I can show how to use Publish Content or Override node options module to give users permissions to publish/unpublish nodes without giving them administer nodes permission.

Thanks for the heads up. I

Thanks for the heads up. I can show them on your behalf if there's time.

Exciting topic. I have much

Exciting topic. I have much here that I want to learn.

I'll aim to demo a bunch of modules that help make the admin interface look and work better, particularly admin and vertical_tabs. Maybe also better_formats and formfilter. Then a fast recap of modules that make it easier for us, like admin_menu, filter_perms and module_filter.

Suggestions for others could be

  • Someone who is good with image handling should also demo imagecache and insert, or I could do a partial version.
  • I've been advised to make more use of views_bulk_operations and views_block. Someone familiar with these should demo them too.

If people would like, I could

If people would like, I could also go over a few modules that make visibility and accessing things easier, like admin menu and using an admin theme like rootcandy.

I also tend to use nodeformcols in conjunction with vertical_tabs.

I don't have a class that Wednesday, so I'll actually be able to attend. And it looks like spring term I won't have Wednesday evening classes either, so I could start coming more regularly.

Quick off-topic Q...

jsimonis's picture

I changed my email address for Drupal recently so that everything Drupal would go to one address. Thus far everything has come through fine.

However, my reply to this posting came to the old address as did my sign up for the event.

I can't locate anywhere else where my e-mail address is saved for these. Any ideas? I really want to get my personal email account to be just that - personal email.

Thanks!

Allowing administrators to view the site as normal users

I just got my first module released! If people are interested, I'd love to give a demo of http://drupal.org/project/sudo which lets administrators work as regular users and obtain administrative permissions as needed. I've often used Masquerade to mimic this functionality in the past, and if people wanted I could demo that module as well and show the differences.

Can't make it tonight

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it up to Portland tonight, sorry.

Teleport

I can give a quick demo of Teleport, a system for navigating when you know the url, node name, etc.

No presentation from me :(

Sadly I don't have time to get a presentation together for the subject this month.
I look forward to see whatever everyone presents! ;)

I'd like to present the greater portland area open data site (civicapps.org) and introduce the DUG to the contest!

Currently the site is in closed beta so this will also be a sneakpeek.

Can't make it...

My seven year-old who has Asperger's just came down sick, which means the only person she wants is her "mommy!" And that means I won't be able to make it. That's too bad since I was looking forward to meeting everyone even if it meant rushing out of Gresham at 5:15 to make it to the meeting in time.

Hopefully I can make the next meeting.

Imagecache

If there's no one else demo-ing ImageCache, I'll go ahead and throw together a quick demo.
