Join our monthly meeting of the Waterloo Region Drupal User Group meetup.
Date/Time: Thursday, March 21, 2019, 7:00pm
Location: The Working Centre, 43 Queen St. S. Kitchener, Ontario.
This session will be a case study of the development of the Story City interactive map for the Vancouver Public Library.
The Vancouver Public Library wanted an interactive showcase for rich media they had collected to give visitors an immersive experience of the history of Vancouver: text, images, and audio to represent the neighbourhoods of the city during various periods of the its history. Their collection used Drupal as part of Islandora, an open source digital repository. The client wanted us to develop the map as a custom module that could be dropped into their existing Islandora installation.
Custom views integration made the data available work with Views, Leaflet, and a handful of modules needed to turn the data available into an interactive map that would allow visitors to navigate the media in their collection, though both space and time in a variety of media. Custom code, in both Drupal and jQuery, provided a bespoke, user-friendly UI, and social sharing of individual map points. The client was thrilled, the site launched to rave reviews, and the code was released to the community.
This presentation will be given at DrupalCon in Seattle next month. More details on the talk are available on the DrupalCon event page. We hope you will come and help give the presenters some feedback so they can make their talk at DrupalCon even better.
