Welcome to the first Florida Drupal Virtual Meetup! We are kicking things off with a presentation by Mike Anello on a great topic for starting any Drupal project. We hope everything goes smoothly but please bear with us as we work out the kinks!

EVENT INFO

Host: Brevard County

Presenter: Mike Anello

Topic: 11 Tips To Start Your Drupal Project Right (more info)

Topic Summary: The first couple of months of a Drupal 8 project usually set the tone for the entire development process. Making bad decisions (or creating bad habits) in the first phase of a project should be avoided at all costs. Using his almost 20 years(!) of web development experience as a resource, Mike Anello (@ultimike) provides 11 practical recommendations to help ensure your project gets started (and launches) on the right foot. Mike’s tips are accessible and suitable for developers, designers, and project managers.

HOW TO ATTEND

  • Via your browser or the Zoom application, visit https://zoom.us/j/383958185 to join
  • For discussion and questions during the meeting, please use the #florida Drupal channel on Slack (more info)
  • Meeting will be approximately 60-90 minutes and a transcript and video of the meeting will be posted to the FLDC Youtube page shortly thereafter for those who can not attend.

NEXT MONTH'S MEETING

Date: June 18th @ 6PM

Host: Jacksonville

Presenter: Chris Crawford

Topic: Porting scanner module from D7 to D8 (more info)

Topic Summary: Christian will explain the very complex undertaking that was his port of scanner module (see https://www.drupal.org/project/scanner) from D7 to D8. This will be a fantastic opportunity to see how non-trivial amount of code of high complexity should be rewritten for D8 with the right architecture.

A great way to learn how D8 approach should differ from D7 approach - for beginner as well as experienced Drupal developers.
