Thursday, May 16 - 6:30-8:30PM
University of Waterloo, Hagey Hall rm 119.
To begin our meeting, we will probably do some introductions and talk about DrupalCon, which is happening this week (May 5-9). Then we have two talks:
Part 1: University of Waterloo Site Management
Chris Shantz (DevOps lead) and Kevin Paxman (web development lead) from the University of Waterloo will cover the history of their Drupal hosting, and focus on how they use Pantheon as a host for their modern web sites. Topics to include Pantheon's AGCDN, domain masking, their install profile, custom scripts and having hundreds of sites running a common codebase.
Part 2: Hacking your hosting: making things your hosting company will never support.
Liam McDermott will talk about getting around Pantheon's PHP library support using Rust. The client on Pantheon needed to fill PDF forms from user input. Usually PHP developers reach for PDFtk for this, but it's not supported by Pantheon. Liam will share how he worked around this restriction using statically compiled C and Rust binaries. And if we're lucky, we will also answer one of the burning questions of our time: Can Pantheon run Doom?

We will be posting a zoom link before the meetup starts. Check back here on the day for details.

For those coming in person: just a warning that the parking rates at the University have gone up. The lot across from Hagey Hall ("H" Lot) is $7 flat rate now. I think :|
