One question: Is this SIG just for AJAX or also for JavaScript issues? If so, I'd suggest renaming this group to "JavaScript & AJAX" or something similar.

I agree
the broader "Javascript and AJAX" makes sense. Let's wait and see what others think and then consider renaming.
rename... the difference is trivial
.
Agreed
Because some people are going to call JavaScript things (like a check-all checkbox) AJAX. And vice versa... Whether or not it calls the server or not is kind of trivial to the "make the web page work like a desktop application" focus of this group.
And since I'm going to guess that we're the only Drupal people that know anything about JavaScript, we should probably try to be inclusive. I say, change the group name, kill this thread. :-)

I prefer the focus on Ajax
Google lists 1,130,000,000 pages about Javascript. If you want to talk about Javascript in general then there are plenty of existing forums on Javascript. I am looking for the minimum talk about Javascript and a focus on Ajax as used in Drupal. That does require some talk about Javascript and compatibility but not a lot.
If people want to discuss making hearts float across the screen using Javascript then they can go to a forum on Javascript.
What I want to know about Javascript is only the code provided in Drupal core and any Javascript provided in Drupal modules that pioneer the use of Ajax in Drupal. If someone is just copying Javascript from an existing Drupal module then please discuss that under the module or in a Javascript forum.
Should someone come up with a better way, faster way, a simpler and more compatible way of doing something for an existing module then post it here. Better is good if you can explain why it is better. More compatible is good if you can list the browsers where your code works. Everything that serves as an example of great ways to use Ajax in Drupal is good.
Asking questions about basic Javascript code bugs, questions that are already answered elsewhere, will not advance our use of Ajax in Drupal. Google says there are 26,400,000 bugs, 54,200,000 errors and 1,850,000 serious errors in Javascript. I would not like posts about all of them here.

first off, AJAX is
first off, AJAX is JavaScript.
The reason we started this group is for the purpose of building more solid tools / components to Drupal that are AJAX based. (JavaScript based)
I've been swamped and havent had a chance to do mmuch on here. This weekened I'm booking time for it.
No, I didn't mean this group
No, I didn't mean this group to become a group for every javascript issues. Of course, this group will stay focused on JavaScript and AJAX in Drupal. I didn't want to open a new "forum".
I also find "AJAX" for the
I also find "AJAX" for the group's name confusing and limited. Nowadays, except just loading data to and from server, we should use nice methods for easy selecting, creating, removing DOM nodes, event handlers and so on... I suggest to rename this group and merge with drupal-js
