Agenda

  • Speed Introductions

    • In one breath, tell everyone who you are, how long you've been working with Drupal (and how) and a surprise question.
  • Lighting Talks
You get 5 minutes and 20 slides or less to show the group anything Drupal related. Could be a project you just finished, or a new module you love, or a new module you hate. Sign up by leaving a comment. Lightning talks can be as short and easy as "I found this really cool module..." or "I can't figure out how to get this module working...".

If you want to add items to the agenda, please leave a comment.

Agenda items

At last month's meeting, we identified two items to discuss in April:

Drupal Clinic 2010

Should we have another Drupal Clinic event this year (a day for beginners to learn Drupal basic concepts, menus, blocks, content editing, CCK, and Views)?
- I am out of town in September and early October, but we could do it in the summer, do it later in October, or someone else could teach it and be in charge of organizing.
- A web site about the 2009 clinic (including Lessons Learned, blank task/planning spreadsheet, curriculum, etc.) is now up again at http://poplarclass.com/
- Katherine mentioned that maybe Aquia would let us use Drupal Gardens for the student sandboxes, which might solve some of the infrastructure problems.
- Jared mentioned that we can probably get the same room we had before, which was a fine space except for the WiFi issues.
- We should definitely not get as many donuts as we had last year. :)

BarCamp

Our previous BarCamp-style event was in February 2009 - http://groups.drupal.org/node/18656 - and it's probably time to do another one. It wasn't all that difficult to arrange, as I recall:
- Find space (large, medium, and small rooms; projectors; wifi; hang space).
- Get a couple of people to sponsor morning and noon snacks.
- Schedule builder: At Methodologie they had a wall with magnets, and we used paper/pens to create sessions (Robin had made pieces of paper of different sizes to represent different time needs), and could move them around by time/room in the schedule. We could potentially also do this with a big white board and pens, or perhaps one piece of paper and some sticky notes (though that would be small), or maybe a computer/projector in the hang-around space, with a Google Docs spreadsheet in it? Or ???
- Organize a couple of other supplies: power strips, extension cords, maybe name tags.

IRC for beginners

People new to SeaDUG usually don't know about IRC, so here is a brief intro.

Drupalistas everywhere use IRC extensively

SeaDUG members can be found hanging out here:

IRC Clients: You can get an IRC browser plugin for Firefox, or a dedicated IRC/Chat application, or you can browse over to an IRC client URL:

Lighting talk on MySQL indexing & Drupal

mikeytown2's picture

I'm getting some "action" in the high performance group in regards to some code I wrote
http://groups.drupal.org/node/57213
http://groups.drupal.org/node/57213#comment-167908

I would like to take some time and talk about adding indexes to Drupal's database. Any CCK field you use in a view filter results in slow queries; code in the linked issue addresses this. Would like to talk about adding indexes to MySQL.

Got the Google maps bus thing going
Going There (212): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=14000+SE+Eastgate+Way&d...
Coming Back (554): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=1601+2nd+Ave,+Seattle,+...
Total cost $1.50 According to Google... Cool.

Can't make it :(

Lightning talk on context attributes

jhodgdon's picture

Jared and I just learned something useful about the context module and how to use its attributes to let a single page be in more than one context. We'd like to give a quick lightning talk about it.

Drupal 6 and Windows Live Writer

Here's the blog post I mentioned at the meeting. Feedback welcome!
