Is anybody interested in volunteering an hour or two of their time to make the Florida DrupalCamp 2010 web site available for other Drupal user groups to clone?

Salim Lakhani from WebEnabled asked me if they could host an empty version of the site for anyone to clone for their own use. In order to do so, someone would have to do the legwork:

  • checkout the site's code and obtain a current DB backup
  • get the site up-and-running on their local machine
  • clear out all content specific to Florida DrupalCamp including (but not limited to) users, news, sessions
  • repopulate the site with some dummy data
  • remove the custom theme and enable a default theme (and make sure everything still works)
  • upload the resulting site to WebEnabled (Salim will provide directions)

If anyone is interested in taking this on, please contact me either directly or in the comments below.

Thanks,
-mike

How 'bout a camp/conference distro?

gusaus's picture

This is a great idea and similar to what LA Drupal did for their camp -
http://drupal.org/node/519100

I posted awhile ago that not only would a camp/conference distro be valuable to the community, it would make for a great learning project -
http://groups.drupal.org/node/25558

Possibly there's a way we can collaborate for the greater good of Drupal?

Up for learning!

I'm mostly a designer/zen-themer/site-builder and work in a micro$oft shop. I'd be interested in getting my feet wet in learning a bit more on the module/php side!

Hey mike, I don't mind doing

Hey mike, I don't mind doing this if the timeframe is fairly flexible - contact me via e-mail with details of how to access the current repository.

Gareth,

Great - thanks. I'll send you an email with all the particulars now.

Feel free to collaborate with any of the other commenters as you see fit.

Thanks,

Cheers Mike, got it. Will

Cheers Mike, got it.

Will speak to Salim and see if I can get it put up on a Webenabled account immediately, then once I'm sure the confidential stuff has been stripped out (e-mails, passwords, etc) I can put out a list of tasks for collaboration.

Collaborate for the greater good!

I like the sound of that :) I'm from the San Diego group, and we based our site off the LA code. I'm also interested in furthering this idea along, to make a really quick usable solution so camp organizers can spend time organizing, not building Drupal sites (unless they want to!).

We're trying to come up with a plan of attack, and will have a BoF at DrupalCon SF. There's a wiki page going over here, http://groups.drupal.org/node/46592. It's gonna be a lot of work, but the benefits to the community as a whole will be large. Lemme know if you want to talk more about it :) We'll have to settle on one codebase to start from, but the idea is to do all the extra things around it like documentation, install profiles, hosting partner, etc, so we can get a 1.0 release out there. And then start talking about new features or how camp sites could be better in general.

Hasn't this already been built?

Would be great if we could all talk at DrupalCon about how local user groups are using this distro (rather than 'how' we're going to build it). As noted over here, Dmitri was already working on something similar. I've also started the process of setting up a sandbox (obviously, very early stages) based on the DrupalLA code. We're using Aegir, so it will be very easy to create/deploy a variety of flavors.

So aside from custom themes, I think we could create a solid base distribution fairly quickly. What do you say we bring all these pieces together and see what we can do? We should take advantage of this Drupal Group (http://groups.drupal.org/conference-organizing-distribution) to communicate and I can set up a project on http://drupalkata.com/.

"Features" might be a good

"Features" might be a good way to go to easily replicate the ease of open atrium's on and off features.
