Hosting recommendation

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I'm painfully aware that this type of question begs for an avalanche of responses of dubious origin. Yet, I must ask anyhow.

Would any TriDUG members care to offer web hosting vendors with whom they are satisfied? I know Rackspace, for example, has an excellent reputation, as well as a premium price tag. I'm thinking more in the $20 - $50 range for LAMP-based hosting (with extra credit for .NET/IIS platform support as well) That range is roughly a premium shared to an economy class VPS, which I'm thinking is about right.

Thanks in advance!

Slicehost

Slicehost is an option if you want a full control economy server. I haven't used them, but they are Rackspace run so I imagine they are good.

Linode

I have been very happy with Linode. They are unmanaged linux VPS's so you can install whatever you want if you want to go that route. I've been with them for about 1 year and I cannot remember my server ever being unavailable and their support is top notch.

Ubiquity Servers

We've had a lot of luck with Ubiquity Servers for an unmanaged VPS in the $25/mo range. We've got two VPS's with them, they're easy to work with (good with live chat, etc). They've even happily helped us out when WE got ourselves into trouble (note: on VPS, don't upgrade your distribution on Ubuntu if they don't support it :) ).

(Note, they have a shared hosting option up at like ubiquityhosting.com; if you go there you won't be able to find the VPS's.)

Host Gator

I love Host Gator. I've been with them for over 2 years. I have a Reseller account which lets me give FTP access to a customer if they really want it or need it, without affecting other customers. I think it's $25/mo. Support is pretty decent. For some things I use the phone line, but for more technical issues I have to open a ticket, but either way response is usually pretty good and the people have a good attitude.

Another vote for Host Gator

Over the past year I've worked with a few clients to build Drupal sites on a variety of host accounts. I have my own personal account on Host Gator and have yet to find another host that makes my job as easy as they do. Inexpensive, good customer service, and you get a lot for your money. And I like that they use wind power!

Hot Drupal

I've been very happy with the performance and support from HotDrupal.com, definitely worth checking out. Plus they are local to NC!

I'll second that about

I'll second that about hotdrupal.com. They specialize in drupal hosting and offer several tiers. They are also flexible with their tiers if you want to customize them a bit. I haven't tried too many hosting solutions for drupal because I've been happy with hotdrupal.com. They have always been very quick to sort out tickets I've submitted even at odd hours.

My experience with

My experience with Bluehost.com has been great so far. They have excellent customer service and everything had been stable for the 1.5 years that I've been with them. I have four websites hosted using Bluehost
