I am hopping to solicit feedback and to find mentor(s).
Overview: Drupal Device Management will leverage the Drupal Framework in the control panel and device management server space enabling Drupal for such applications such as SMB PBX, home set-top box, automation HMI, ect. The applicant is currently pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science, has participated in Drupal based website implementations, is a member of the EFF, FSF and IEEE, and is a true believer of the public commons importance.
Description: D7 is not a likely candidate to run on a $50 USD Internet router (maybe with HipHop for PHP the mem requirement could fit) but DDM doesn't have to run on the device and the project shall have a web-services architecture for this very reason. DDM stands in excellent position to share Drupal bliss in control panel spaces currently held by Webmin, eBox, ISPConfig as well as in device management such as ACS and WBEM. It is too DDM did not exist prior to OpenQRM's switch from Java to PHP... lots of applications for DDM.
Work (modules, views, rules, ect) on big clients such as a server based PBX could also be used on a web server to remotely control a "lighter" device such as an embedded PBX or consumer integrated access device.
DDM on local device:
DDM <-> webservices <-> puppet OR wbem OR OMA-DM client
DDM remote from device:
DDM <-> webservices <-> puppet OR wbem OR OMA-DM client
