Benc, I just got your msg. I just finished conducting the 3 workshops. However, I do have a plan of scheduling another one next week for the benefit of those who were interested but was not able to attend.

My target audience as of the past workshops where academic orgs, enthusiasts and some of my clients.

You'll hear from me soon about the next one. Feel free to give suggestions as to how we can accommodate events for the benefit of Drupal Philippines group.

Sept. 12, 2007 at 2PM | Asia Pacific College, Magallenes Village, Makati City
[ ] guests from different universities/schools were nurtured with Moodle and Drupal's powerful capabilities
[ ] showcase the efficiency of using Drupal as a community site for academic environments

Conclusion
These workshop is just a small step in promoting the power of Open Source, especially Drupal. Many were interested, some were even spooked because they needed Drupal but just found out about it for the first time.

Since there was a very good feedback from the participants, a new workshop schedule will be held at APC.
This time, the schedule will be polled for the convenience of those who can't attend during work hours.

Some businessmen also gained the attention and offered business deals, but unfortunately I can't accept more projects as of the moment due to time constraints.

Congratulations, Mark

Mark -- Great work! Sana you can post pictures -- Dries is asking for photos :)

If you have opportunities, post them in this forum so our Drupaleros can take them on! That's a good way to support the Drupal developers here.

Congrats nga pala.

benc, a huge congratulations on your SoC opportunity.

About the pictures and business opportunities... I will try to post them asap. Will still need to get the photos from our photographer who is on leave until the next week. I'm also trying to setup my own Drupal site again but I don't get enough time to do so because of my client's requests.

I wish you could join me (or anyone from Drupal Phlippines) in my adventure here in the business district.

Right now I venture alone, struggling with this environment filled with Joomla babies and agitated business junkies.

Thanks for the link Rick. I checked out the site about SFD 2007.

What you have there is awesome. I really think that It's a very good event to promote Software freedom here in the Philippines.

So far with my Open Source talks, we've come across violent reactions from big-time businessmen, esp. here in Makati.

Most of the time they have these concerns:
[ ] "If we decide to go with F/OSS, will there be enough competent manpower here in the PH to satisfy the service?"
[ ] "If we go open source, how will our other business clients respond to us when they are using commercial ones?"
[ ] "Are Filipino I.T. better than Indians??" -->Tama ba un?

I know that some of the questions sounds a bit crazy but that's what really is lurking in their mind.

Of course, we try to answer but with cautious and realistic rhetorics, as we are not trying to force them to use F/OSS, hence, we are showing that there is an alternative in the Software Industry.

Congrats!

Congrats, mrncaballero! You have contributed much to the Philippine Drupal Awareness and Education Programme (PDAEP) :-P .

Some businessmen also gained the attention and offered business deals, but unfortunately I can't accept more projects as of the moment due to time constraints.

I am also unable to accept more projects at the moment. And hopefully you can be generous enough to post "help wanted ads" in the appropriate forums so that others can get to make use of these potential benefits as well.

There is the reality that several business challenges require such solutions which Drupal can answer, and possibly, in a short period of time. Learning Drupal can be a real goldmine for solutions developers but I hope this doesn't stop us from sharing our expertise and continuing our efforts in propagating the use of secure and functional Drupal-based websites.

Congrats accepted. You flatter me... :)

marcrobinsone's picture

Thanks loloyd.

I must say that what we are facing right now in the software industry is really difficult. It's US versus THEM. I mean not only are we struggling with our own personal battles while we do things to promote our good cause, plus the element of time.

It's like drinking while eating. Or thinking while peeing... and other awkward feelings.

Wala pang may gusto sa mga collegues ko na gumamit nang drupal... huhu. Yaw daw nila kasi mataas ang learning curve.

I'm sure Dries will figure out a way to make Drupal more powerful yet so friendly to ordinary human beings.

As for us, I think we may be called "heroes" as well... without the weirdness and supernatural abilities. We are trying to change the mindset of people which is more difficult than saving them from falling off a building (parang ganun narin un..)
