Overview

We all know that Drupal is feature-rich and made more feature-rich by way of its very extensive set of pluggable modules. We can contribute to the general Drupal knowledge base by attempting to simplify the process of searching and finding the correct and appropriate module for any given task. We can also discuss the pros and cons of using a module or a group of modules among several of them which may have crossover functionalities (example Taxonomy Access Control and Taxonomy Access Control Lite, etc.).

Purpose

This Wiki page has been designed for the following purpose:

  • To help other users find the modules they need by narrowing down the list of modules which have been deemed significantly useful in the most practical sense by other users.
  • To document your accomplishments in using a particular module.
  • To share some insights and tips on how you use your favorite module.
  • To showcase the project you implemented by using which module.

Availability and Scope

Anyone is free and welcome to edit this wiki page, add to it and improve on it. The listing is sorted alphabetically while a brief discourse follows in simple <dd> tags.

Favorite Modules List

  • Captcha

Enables a web developer to implement challenge-response test to site users, thereby discouraging spambots from plaguing the site's comment boxes.
  • Categories (formerly, Taxonomy)

This built-in module lets users tag or label content. Labeling is the best way to organize and display information in a website. In a blog, for example, users will find it easier to browse your content if you have content labels instead of simply grouping your entries by date. Tagging content is also a powerful way to make information easier to share. If you use social tagging (like free tagging, which Drupal can do), you will be able to discover how your users are using the information in a website.
  • CCK or Content Construction Kit

Enables a web administrator to deploy customized content structures as opposed to the usual Title/Body content type.
  • Views

The views module provides a flexible method for Drupal site designers to control how lists of content (nodes) are presented. This tool is essentially a smart query builder that, given enough information, can build the proper query, execute it, and display the results. It has four modes, plus a special mode, and provides an impressive amount of functionality from these modes.
  • Event

This is a simple module to keep track of events and show them to users in various calendar displays. It also provides an event API to allow other modules to store and work with date data. Custom event types can be created using flexinode or CCK. Any node type can be event-enabled by selecting this option on the content workflow page.
