Hey all,
I started working on a Drupal 6 site a bit ago and have the install done, with a theme selected and installed, and am considering migrating to Drupal 7 before I delve farther into developing the site. The only module I have installed other than core is SWF Tools.
Has anyone heard of Drupal 7 migrations going smoothly to this point? Even if modules and themes are not 7 specific, have they been unstable on 7? Will they even work?
Just looking to start some discussion on Drupal 7 and to see if there is anyone else interested in tackling the task of migrating an existing Drupal 6 site.
For those with Drupal 6 experience that have played around with 7, do you find that your experience using Drupal 6 modules like CCK and Views carries over to using these features that are now included in 7? With so many sites still developing in 6 and the time it will take for them to migrate, would it be extremely useful to learn the "old way" of using these modules or do you think the understanding of their function still be apparent by using them as integrated features in Drupal 7?
Into the realm of the unknown we go.. Looking forward to giving Drupal 7 a go anyway. Should be sweet!

Drupal 6 vs Drupal 7
Howdy,
I'm been playing around with Drupal 7 quite a bit myself, but it's not quite ready for prime time. I'd feel free to experiment with it, test it, and report any bugs to the Drupal 7 team, but I'd refrain from attempting to build a production site for end users with Drupal 7 until a final release ships.
According to webchick on the Drupal 7 Alpha 3 release notes:
She also notes that "the upgrade path [from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7] does not work yet." Furthermore, as far as I know, themes and modules that don't advertise to work with Drupal 7 will indeed not work with Drupal 7. That's been the main thing holding me back from beginning to develop projects (even those a few months out) in Drupal 7. I need a number of critical modules to function properly in Drupal 7 before I'd consider launching a production site.
From what I've seen of the Drupal community, there will be large production sites running Drupal 6 (and even Drupal 5) for years to come. Many Drupal 6 modules will also continue to be supported for at least the foreseeable future.
BTW, the Gull Ski site is looking great. Keep it up!
