Start:
2007-10-13 10:00 NZ a group of drupalers from Catalyst want to have a hackfest. Who else is up for this?
what will you do?
1. create that awesome module you've been thinking of, and contribute it
2. add that sweet-as feature to you existing module
3. help the catalysters in their crusade to do more postgres testing/support/patching
4. play bug bingo
5. ask brenda, she'll have something that needs testing/diagnosing/patching/reviewing.
UPDATE: Venue = Shiny's Aro Valley Pad - email brenda@catalyst.net.nz for address/RSVP
Credit for this great idea goes to SamB.

I'm keen!
I am more than happy to spend the day hanging out and testing any patches people care to work on :)
Go go Drupal Hackfest!
I'm happy enough to work from ... well, work but anywhere with decent (free) wireless access would be workable
.
Count me in also. I would prefer to not be at work for the weekend but if it comes to that, I'm happy enough :)
I'll ask a friend or two to see if they are interested as well.
i'll organise some beer
i'll organise some beer then!
I could come play
try and pick things up, do some postgres testing, patching work ... maybe

I've never touched Drupal, but am keen in taking a look at it, so will be along.
ah - you silverstripe spy!
ah - you silverstripe spy! :-D
anyhoo, i'll organise an overview of drupal's niftiness, to get us started - probably include database abstractions, menuing and the forms api
*shifty eyes*
I'm always keen to learn other CMS's and just increase my general knowledge of things. Plus I'm a noob student and have nothing better to do :P
Sounds like a great idea
I'd probably use it to start on a port of taxonomy_filter to Drupal 6. Plus completely rework it in the process to be more pluggable and APIish. I'll just have to remind myself how Drupal and PHP works ;)
Unfortunately it clashes with my sons first birthday party. Another time would be good, but don't reschedule on my account. I'll be keen to take part in any possible later one too.

The catalysters would rather not go to work on the weekend.
Anyone know a good location for this?
Shiny... you invited me, but...
I'm afraid I will be in San Francisco. I'll happily come to #2; seems Madman's going though, so at least there will be one SilverStriper attending :)
I'll be at SuperHappyDevHouse Silicon Valley #20
I for one welcome...
...our new jet setting open source celebrity Silverstripe overlords :) Weren't you just over there recently?
Seriously though, you guys are seem to be doing awesomely with your new open source approach - congrats. It's great to see more success stories from this part of the world.

Introducing Cycling Advocates Network of New Zealand
Hi Guys
Great job you are doing in the Drupal community. I am new to Open Source, and I am impressed with your incredible culture. I am present to an amazing group of generous people with a high sense of community, creating a culture of information sharing that is very inspiring. Your hackfest seems to be a lot of fun.
My name is André Cymbalista, I am originally from Brazil, living in Wellington. I am working on a project for CAN (Cycling Advocates Network - http://www.can.org.nz/). CAN is New Zealand's national network of cycling advocates. We are a non-profit, and we work with government and local authorities on behalf of cyclists, for a better cycling environment. We take a stand for the environment and for improving the quality of life in our communities.
We received a grant to implement a project that has a community software component, and we decided to use Drupal.
I was wondering wether you would be interested in having fun in your hackfest while implementing some interesting modifications in existing modules that would be useful for us, and potentially to many other groups?
One of our ideas is about recontextualising bike routes in Googlemaps format that are available from other websites (e.g.: bikely.com and mapmyroute.com). We would like to mashup these routes with our own user generated content (e.g.: where are the blackspots, the parking places, the bike shops, the most recent changes, etc). This module is where Googlemap meets a Wiki.
We need another module, which is less challenging from a technical point of view, but more useful to all advocacy groups. It is a submissions engine that allows anyone to create a submission in response to a public consultation, and have it sent to the accountable official channels at the council or government. Other users can learn about previous submissions, and support them with a mouse click, adding their own comments, and explaining why that specific issue matters to them. The beauty about this module is that, if well implemented, can be made available as a standalone webservice, quite useful for any group who is interested in encouraging people to participate more actively in the public planning processes. Think of a poliicized shoulddothis.com on steroids, and you will have an idea of the potential of this module.
Does that sound inspiring to you? If it does, and if you feel that this is something that you would like to hack on in your fest, I would feel very much privileged to receive an invitation to hack with you. I cannot program, but I can draw models and detail requirements on the go, and of course, I can do the testing. And I can also contribute to the hackfest bringing some cases of your favorite beer.
Please let me know which of the suggested modules you would be most interested in.
Cheers,
Andre

I gotta close the invitation now, cos my lounge isn't so enourmous, so we be full.
