Hello !

I suggest having a meetup starting with a "new to drupal" presentation, on how to set-up a website in 20 mins. We can have several rooms if there is a lot of presenters willing to demonstrate something.

====

Pour cette édition, je suggère d'avoir une présentation pour "novices" avec une démonstration en live de comment créer un site web en 20 minutes. S'il y a beaucoup d'autres présentateurs qui veulent faire une démo, on peut avoir plusieurs salles.

Workflows

mdupont's picture

Hi,

I drafted up a presentation about workflows and revisions for yesterday's meet-up, unfortunately I was unable to come due to last minute personal issues. So let's do the presentation on May 27th.

Anyway, you can download the slides (ODP format) and feel free to improve them. A PDF version is also available if you don't have OpenOffice.org.

Greetings

I am not a Geneva native, but have been here a couple of times recently and will be here often for the next several months on a Drupal-related project. I am here right now, actually, through the morning of the 13th. I would love to find other Drupalistas and open source folks, especially those who would not mind hearing about this new project I'm on and would be open to working on it (and paid well). Let me know if you're around the next few days and up for a chat - I'm reachable at brian@behlendorf.com. Thanks,

Brian

Interested

Hello,

We're interested and most probably come (guillaume, two alexandres + a new one). I dont think that we're confident enough yet to make a presentation on drupal but it's getting there.

By the way, I'm looking for good PHP developers on drupal (or not btw) so if you're looking for a job or you know anyone interested feel free to send me a CV guillaume at arluison.com

See you on the 27th !

The correct date is the 26th

New location possibility

Hi guys !
Sorry, I was not able to come to the last meeting. But I'm pleased to see that mdupond was not able to do the presentation on the "worlkflow" ... I didn't miss it ;-)

For futur meetings, I can have access to a very nice place at Plainpalais (Geneva), it has a beamer, wifi-access and could accept ~20-25 persons.
Let me know if you are interested...
See you the 26th !

+1, of course... ;-)

Suggestion : Drupal performance tips

mdupont's picture

Hi,

I'd really like to see a presentation about best practices for Drupal performance. I've read a lot of material from 2bits, Four Kitchens, the Drupal High Performance group, the book Pro Drupal Development, etc, and I'm wondering about the performance gains (and potential problems) one could get by applying simple tips. Nothing complex, just for small/medium websites on a single LAMP server with plain Drupal.

Examples of topics :

  • System (partitioning, Linux tweaks...)
  • Apache (maxclients, disabling lookups for .htaccess files, using mod-fcgid instead of mod-php5...)
  • MySQL (caches, logging, engine to use depending on tables...)
  • Memcache
  • PHP (memory, op-codes cache systems like APC...)
  • Drupal (built-in caches, things that are not cached like dynamic blocks or text with PHP input filter, contrib modules like AuthCache and Boost, memory footprint at bootstrap with a lot of modules activated...)

I hope I'm right when I say this could be of interest for a lot of people, all the more since Google takes page rendering speed into account, and since most Drupal sites don't need clusters, reverse-proxys, load-balancers and CDN to run.

Good topic

@mdupont, good topic. I could talk a little about this. But this sort of thing might best for a focused discussion where everyone kind of brings a tip and we share and discuss.

I could talk about Drupal Gardens and give a demo of my Drupal Gardens site (which I don't actually use). I would rather reserve presentations for French speakers though, so as not to leave out any people new to Drupal who may not speak English.

Hello !

mkalbere's picture

Pendant que j'y pense :

http://drupal.org/project/masquerade

The masquerade module is designed as a tool for site designers and site administrators. It allows a user with the right permissions to switch users. While masquerading, a field is set on the $user object, and a menu item appears allowing the user to switch back. Watchdog entries are made any time a user masquerades or stops masquerading.
