Hello,
I am wondering what success other people are having with this capability? In theory it is great, but in practice not so much. At least not for me...
In my setup the menuing of System1 is not maintained in System2 - there isn't a menu.
I've been comparing the tables of the two systems and combing through the generated .profile but nothing is jumping out at me.
I'm wondering if I should abandon use of the Wizard and just leverage the functions in crud.inc ?
Thanks!
Cheers
Jason

Agreed
As the developer of the install profile wizard, I generally tend to agree with you. It points out to big issues that need to be addressed with install profiles in general. Notice that the Install Profile Wizard is by no means meant to be effective "out of the box": it just generates a draft, which you need to edit by hand (removing unwanted variables for instance).
help improve?
Instead of abandoning, you can always help improve what is in there, if you are willing to. Of course if you only take for granted what is there, you are better off with crud.inc.

Happy to help improve what is there.

I'm still having issues though :-)

There are already two

as well as

So if you're down with CRUD (I like the idea at least) it'd be good to contribute to the API + Wizard; if not, maybe you can build on the raw base of Shiny's profile_generator.

I am currently in the process of porting everything from profile_generator to install_profile_wizard, using CRUD. This is as part of an agreement with Shiny not to have two different projects. As the maintainer of the install_profile_wizard, I am more than open to any suggestions or contributions.
According to my own recent experience with install profiles, I am putting into question their effectiveness. See my new post on that subject: http://groups.drupal.org/node/6820
