Over the last weekend I started to develop the Feed Element Mapper - a Feed API compatible module that ultimately should allow you to map any item on a feed to any field on your feed item node. Currently there is an implementation for taxonomies.
Check out the screencast on our blog here:

and you can grab the module here:

(I just upgraded it to FeedAPI 1.0 compatibility)

This is the killer feature
And that's saying something in a suite of modules filled with killer features.
Thanks for your work on this -- both over the summer as a mentor, and since the SoC ended --
This changes the terrain when it comes to designing sites that share content --

Thank you Bill. I just did
Thank you Bill.
I just did an upgrade to feedapi_mapper. Functionality stays the same, but the UI is a lot closer now.
I also broke out the mapper implementation(s) for single node fields. In the implementation example for taxonomy fields one can see how easy it is to implement a mapping to a particular node field: http://cvs.drupal.org/viewvc.py/drupal/contributions/sandbox/alex_b/feed...
If sb. out there is interested in writing an implementation for a mapper implementation, I ll be happy to help.

We'll probably be using the mapper
and the feedapi to connect a Drupal site with a doc repository/Dublin Core metadata -- we are still researching the options, but leaning heavily toward using the feedapi and mapping. When we get our spec clean, we'll post it up into the group. If we end up going with the mapper, we'll be writing and releasing back some mapper implementations for different types of fields (image, text, audio, and video).
Also, we have been testing the feed mapper code in your sandbox, and it has been working in conjunction with Simplepie without a hitch -- we'll be banging away on the code more over the next few days, and will report any bugs we find to the issue queue --
But, so far, it's been easy -- almost too easy :)
Cheers,
Bill
