Hi guys,

I got three servers up and running now with a modified Mercury stack (I use Percona Xtradb instead of stock mysql for more performance) and some kernel tweaks, coming from the High Performance Drupal Group. Using the excellent tutorials and wikis available in this group, I boot up with an EBS Lucid instance, get three different EBS volumes running, make a RAID0 with two of them, attach that to instance for mysql and use the remaining volume for varnish and apache log files. The jury is out there whether or not one should also separate the mysql logs (specially in the case of Innodb) and the database. I have chosen to keep both in the same volume. I ran into one issue, which was simply that once you stop and start the EBS instance, any symlinks to and from the /mnt virtual volume disappear - I have now moved all these links to the EBS backed volumes.

Keep in mind that these changes do break the good work from Greg and others when it comes up running the mercury.update script. I will get down to changing that script if and when its necessary and have time. for the moment, the set ups I have work brilliantly.

Would be glad to give a hand...

I've used EC2 for multiple services. Not as sophisticated as Aruna, above.

I'm interested in testing performance of existing sites against a scaleable nginx + php-fpm + mysql cloud stack.

What are the characteristics of you existing setup? Bandwidth and anonymous vs. authenticated ratio?

Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2)
