John W was nice enough to point out a new buffalo venue in this thread http://groups.drupal.org/node/69818 but we could use some feedback. There was interest in a Rochester-based meeting - any locations avbl for June 15 @ 7pm?? I'm a bit out of my element when it comes to Rochester venues, so please -if you're interested in holding some of these meetings in Rochester provide some venue leads!
Barring that, we'll probably have to explore John W's suggestion seeing as how Medaille is likely not an option...
Also, I was thinking it'd be nice to have a 20-min or so presentation... Any takers???

New to the area
Hi,
I am new to the area. I just moved to Ithaca this week. I would be interested in a Rochester meeting in June or July. Probably won't go to one in Buffalo because of the extra hour drive. Just thought I would put my 2 Cents in.
Thanks,

Welcome, Ted!
I reached out to the folks who run the Rochester BarCamp about venues, but am relying heavily on our Rochester contingent to help identify venues. John W volunteered to talk to a place in Williamsville (a buffalo burb) and is working on that for June, and I'm talking to other user group organizers. The response by and large has been "just use hackerspace", which we have in Buffalo; there's also one in Rochester. That could be a really great setup, and I'm leaning in that direction. Though it would mean a change in the day of week / week of month (currently 3rd tuesday), but probably not time (currently 7pm). As soon as we have venue nailed down, I'll create the event sign up.
Again, welcome and please do consider joining us online on the June 15th - I will have a gotomeeting set up (with waaaay better A/V support this time). Who knows - at this point June might be a grand experiment in EVERYBODY joining online, though we'd need to limit to 15 or so people. There's a thought... :)
Office Space
My office conference room, in downtown Rochester, can accommodate eight people. Probably not enough, but it's free if we need it!

Really? A Rochester venue?!?!
That's generous of you, Mike! We could really use some feedback on this thread...
To do this, what if we:
(a) capped the in-person attendees to 8 and
(b) promised a much better online experience for everybody else?
That way, people could sign up for the event as usual, the first 8 who sign up then comment on the event posting with "I'll be there in person" get seats at mike's location and the rest (up to 15) get seats at home?
Thoughts? Counter-venues?
Wrong directions but a CNY Meeting could happen too
I know it is the wrong direction for those from Buffalo but maybe us CNYers could have a meeting in the Syracuse Area. I am the Designer for the Syracuse City School District and could inquire about a room here. If not I wouldn't mind making the treck out to Buffalo every other month though.
Okay, I think there's a venue lined up
So John W (I mentioned this in the original post) was looking into a venue for lack of another and the folks he contacted were still interested in hosting as Mike posted his offer. I really think that Mike's idea is a great one for a small meetup, but I just don't know if we're ready to commit to a very large online presence (given recent interest and my gotomeeting # cap...). I want to make the online thing much stronger, though, and I think this one-off venue actually allows us to make some strides there. (More info in that post - they're actually super well-equipped in a pretty big space.)
Anyway, I'll post the Event sign up soon.
re: Syracuse, I also think that's a really excellent idea - how many of members of this group are out that way?
Well, I don't know how many
Well, I don't know how many others there are, but I'm in Syracuse proper and I given that I don't personally have access to a car I'd be delighted to electronically attend the next meetup if it doesn't happen to take place in or around Syracuse.
