Hi everyone, I am returning to live in Portland after living here in the late 90s'. Wow things have changed!
I have a client who needs tutoring on administering their Drupal site, and I want to meet them at an internet cafe or place with free wi-fi.
Can you recommend a cafe or restaurant that is comfortable, not too crowded or noisy, has an attractive environment, and smoke-free atmosphere, and free, reliable, and fast internet? Anywhere downtown, in the NW, or SE would do.
Thanks for the advice, and I hope to make it to the meetup.

There's tons of options!
There's tons of options! Personally, I like Sweetness Bakery/cafe on SE 52nd just south of Powell. If that doesn't suit you, check out Personal Telco's map of locations:

These spots are pretty likely to be active, problem-free, and not password-protected. Some are at cafes, some are at people's houses. Personal Telco is a nonprofit that's been at it for many years, with good "open access" values.
You should also be aware of MetroFi hotspots. These are part of a city program, and are advertising-driven. They're all over the place -- really pretty amazing how quick they have rolled out -- but they are very often problematic. When they work, they work fine; in my experience, that's roughly 25% of the time. YMWV.
Good luck, and welcome back!
