DrupalDownunder 2011

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

There's been a lot of discussion in the Australian Drupal community over the past year regarding National Drupal Events. We've taken up an opportunity to have a National event called DrupalDownunder (http://groups.drupal.org/node/81469) in Brisbane, Jan 2011 backing off LCA (in the same vein as DrupalSouth early this year).

We've been in touch with some of the leaders from each of the Drupal Meetups throughout Australia asking if they would be the "people on the ground" who keep the community in your area aware of what is happening with DrupalDownunder, recommend and highlight some of the key speakers from their community and generate any support or sponsors needed for DrupalDownunder. We'll keep you posted with who these people will be as we receive more confirmations from those we've already contacted. We've limited this to two per state. If we've overlooked anyone, our apologies, please feel free to get in touch via our contact form as we're eager to confirm those who are interested in being those State representatives. As mentioned before, we're still awaiting some responses so if you're eager drop us a line soon. :)

Our heart and passion is for Drupal and for the community and we'd love to see this event both attract some great international speakers for not just 2011 but set in place some structures and a support framework for other states to run National events in the coming years. We could potentially follow LCA to whatever state they are in as they are definitely a helping hand in making this event potentially be something special. They attract a wider OpenSource community as well as some great Drupal speakers. ;)

We're not wanting to undermine any work anyone else has done to date, we're just wanting to grab an opportunity to see the Australian community come together.

We're working with some guidance from Bevan and Natasha (organisers of DrupalSouth) and Donna (KatteKrab) who all have great experience in organising larger events. Donna has also agreed to be the liaison between LCA and DrupalDownunder.

We'll be posting more information up about this event as plans unfold but for now, if you're interested in getting updates, feel free to sign up for the newsletter at http://drupaldownunder.org

Thanks,
Jeff and Sheree
& the DrupalDownunder Team

Looking forward to this event immensely.
If DrupalCamp QLD was anything to go by, this is sure to be a success!
Thanks again Jeff & Sheree

ps might be worth adding

#details-tab {
  cursor: pointer;
}

to the css, I didn't realise the more details was clickable at first.

Great kick off for this much needed event. Very confident that this team, who by all accounts did an awesome job with DrupalCamp QLD, will make this another win :)

My hand is up for helping out with sponsorship-specific activities.

Assume you guys have seen this already but if not....

Indeed

Indeed we have :) We initially started the ddu site based on the DC LA distribution, but found that there was a lot of stuff left in their provided db which gave us headaches and a few features which seemed a bit culturally off for our context.

The site right now is simply a heavily one-off single-page theme, so we didn't have too much to lose starting fresh with COD which is what we have done. However, it's all a fair bit of work, so I must say thanks at this point to the guys on the DDU team in Bris who are making the site happen -- Sheree (Marmalade) for designing the site, Tony (taslett) for so much work on the upcoming theme, Sean (SeanBannister) for putting in so many hours, and Chris (univate) for getting involved in the COD effort.
