As only a proxy to something else (Apache)

I'm kind of impressed.I thought a majority of people used Nginx as a proxy and just sat Apache behind it to handle PHP.

You posted in the wrong place. In this group almost everyone discusses on how to run nginx as primary server, thus the result.
