As you've no doubt heard, Drupalcon Boston 2008 is on the way March 3 - 6, 2008. I've been contacted by the folks organizing the Community and Core track, and they're very interested in a session at Drupalcon about GHOP. :)
I figure we can have an agenda something like:
- What the heck is GHOP?
- What were the final outcomes of the contest? (statistics)
- GHOP students in attendance get up and show off their cool work
- Show off some other cool work done by students who couldn't attend
- GHOP students and administrators talk a bit about their experiences, what worked/didn't work, and how to continue the "GHOP spirit" post-GHOP.
- Q/A
So...
- Are you a GHOP student (or admin) planning on attending? If so, leave a comment!
- Does that agenda sound ok? Too boring? Missing stuff? What do you think?
Let's try and get a proposal together by next Friday, so I can get it into the folks.

2 cents
There has been a lot of general info about GHOP. I'd be interest in case studies and demonstrations on specific interesting projects, and hearing about it from a students perspective, if there are any GHOP students at DrupalCon.
A summary of interesting points in the stats would also be interesting. Especially comparing how Drupal fared against other CMS and web platforms. About 5 of the 10 projects were web-content tools.
(I have co-mentored a couple of tasks and students and have a few more tasks just coming off of the factory floor)

Better hurry w/ those tasks...
The last day for students to claim tasks is Tuesday, so they need to be posted, reviewed, and refined by then. :( Harassing people in #drupal or the usability group might be a good approach. Unfortunately, the GHOP admin-types pretty much have their hands full just doing that stuff, so we need the community's help in reviewing/refining tasks.

http://drupal.org/node/209101 needs a student
http://drupal.org/node/211072 needs a student
http://drupal.org/node/211110 needs review
potentially two more in the pipe, depending on popularity of the latter two.

Aha
This sounds like a great idea, Angie. I will be in attendance, and hopefully GHOP will have paid for me being there (6 tasks=$200, $195 for Drupalcon).
I'm a student...
... and I'm going.
I can help
I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend Drupalcon, but even so I'm willing to help out with creating the presentation or whatever, since I helped with the administration.
Dude you are SO coming to Drupalcon...
I'm gonna kick your bee-hind if you don't. ;)
I'd like to be there, but no
I'd like to be there, but no chance to get there, 200$ only for the confoerence, + new passport, +flight from germany, + hotel. Else i'd be able to talk from my GHOP experience, too, but it's just not possible :(
Aw. :( Maybe Drupalcon Europe?
There are a lot of German Drupal users out there. Hopefully one of them could step up to help organize such a conference in the fall. :)
I will be there. Bevan/

Tidied-up post for review by community and submission
SESSION OVERVIEW
GHOP, which stands for Google Highly Open Participation, is a contest which attempts to get high school students involved in open source organizations such as Drupal. From November 2007 to February 2008, many 13-18 year olds did amazing work for Drupal, and many of them are planning on being long-term members of the Drupal community. This session will cover what GHOP students did for Drupal, and how their becoming part of the community will strengthen Drupal.
TRACK
Community and Core
AGENDA
* What the heck is GHOP? A basic overview will be given by the masterminds behind this.
* What were the final outcomes of the contest? Statistics, and perhaps a graph or two, will be presented.
* GHOP students in attendance get up and show off their cool work.
* Show off some other cool work done by students who couldn't attend.
* GHOP students and administrators talk a bit about their experiences, what worked/didn't work, and how to continue the "GHOP spirit" post-GHOP. There will be a tie-in to how GHOP really is one of the best boosters the community has had in years.
* Q & A with students and administrators if time permits.
GOALS
The goals of this session are to raise community awareness of GHOP, improve future GHOP contests, give these students some recognition for their hard work, strengthen the Drupal community, and promote youth rights.
RESOURCES
Having a basic knowledge of Drupal's participation in GHOP would be useful but not absolutely necessary. See http://drupal.org/node/195913 for basic information about Drupal and GHOP.
Approved and session created
Webchick approved this, so it has been created as a session here
Also of interest to people here may be this, a birds of a feather session for Drupallers under (or including, I guess...) age 18.
I would love to come
I would love to come, but I need financial aid. If anyone is interested please contact me. My bio is located at http://boston2008.drupalcon.org/user/500.
PLease indicate that in your Drupalcon user profile as well...
There's a collapsed fieldset in one of the tabs that lets you indicate you need financial assistance.
I hope we can get you there.. the work you did on SimpleTest tests was simply AMAZING!
