Creating User Profiles for Faculty and Staff members

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Team,

I’m creating user profiles for faculty and staff members. I’m using Drupal core profile module, and not very happy with the layouts, and having some issues with it. I was just wondering if anyone here is also working on similar topics. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

new content type

You might want to consider using a defined content type with CCK to create your data (faculty/staff) model. I can't seem to tease out the documentation, but I think Profiles have a limited lifespan in Drupal 7. There are additional modules that will interconnect a defined content type with profiles. http://drupal.org/project/content_profile

Thanks, I think I'm on right track now.

I am using content_profile

I am using content_profile and use views to create profiles and directories. It is working well for me so far.

Hi xjm, how did you upload the profile picture using content profile? Are you using profile core module and content profile module together?

No, I use only content

No, I use only content profile. Since content profile allows you to use any content type--or types--as profiles, I added a filefield for the profile image.

Different user profiles

Hi - I am trying to figure out how to use content profiles to create and manage two user profiles (basic user and journalist). There are other non-functional users in the system such as admin, moderator etc but these two user type need to have a dedicate and different extended user profile. While basic user can register themselves, the journalist accounts are managed by admin users only. How can I get this to work with views...? Or any other way for that matter :)

Any help would be much much appreciated.

faculty profiles

This is a timely question, since one of the main presentations at DrupalCamp last weekend was on Open Scholar. This is a Drupal distribution designed to do exactly what you want, assuming that exactly what you want is to create faculty pages and track faculty publications, and let each faculty alter their own page somewhat! You can create an open scholar distribution using a drush makefile or you can download a tarball from their site (which includes all the 3rd party items like the javascript for TinyMCE).

The speaker at DrupalCamp (ferdi) seemed very interested in sharing his work and helping out new installations.
