Developing CCK teasers the right way

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Howdy,

looks like one of the most wanted features of Conent Construction Kit (CCK) are teasers (short presentation text of nodes with eventually a picture, showing on the front page).

Urging this feature as many others for couple of my websites, I digged Drupal.org a bit looking for a solution. Unfortunately, teaser functionality seems still on it's first steps and many different approaches can be found (i write below the interesting Drupal.org nodes i found).

QUESTION: i would be interested in hiring / co-sponsoring a programmer to develop teaser functionality for CCK. Can any expert Drupal coder give a hint on what approach is more reliable/correct/better, so to take the right path and spend well any effort?

POSSIBLE APPROACHES (AFAIK):
63883 - About ContentTemplates (aka Contemplate) module by jjeff.
67922 - Patch for making Excerpt.module and CCK work togheter.
62980 - Patch for making teasers work with CCK by Bèr Kessels.
nicklewis.org/node/844 - CCK teasers via PHPtemplate by Nick Lewis

TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS (tips):
67378 - Using Contemplate and Img_assist modules.
69054 - Using Contemplate and an extra 'teaser' field in CCK content type.

Thank you very much for any advice you might give,

Marco

(PS: i posted this message also on Drupal forum at http://drupal.org/node/69877)

You can currently hack your way around the lack of teasers in your theme. Not nice, I know. JonBob told me that the biggest obstacle for this feature would be UI, ie where to but the button that says "put me inteaser".

look at what i did for teasers in the audio module. you pass in a series of tokens t() style and it allows you to pick the metadata you want as a teaser. which, i'll admit, is a total misuse of t() but it works pretty well.

I would be curious to hear why you'd rather see this functionality built into CCK rather than using contemplates. I'm using contemplates for my teasers right now, and although I'm still struggling with it, it seems like it allows a good amount of flexibility.
