New HTML5 Boilerplate by Paul Irish

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Ran into this from ajaxian, might serve as a decent reference or model for the new HTML5 theme:

http://html5boilerplate.com/

It's an out-of-the-box website template that utilizes a lot of well-established and still-establishing techniques of handling HTML5 for multiple browsers.

All of the source is available on that page for your perusal. And as the website claims, if you don't like it, the boilerplate is delete-key friendly.

Enjoy!

I would love to see a starter

I would love to see a starter theme based on this.

me too - I thought of trying

me too - I thought of trying to start one, but I am not that advanced in themeing yet.

I know that I could make something hackish, but I think I would break some built-in Drupal requirements for templates to display things. :)

HTML Base!

jensimmons's picture

We are working on a HTML5 start theme, named HTML5 Base: http://drupal.org/project/html5_base and we are talking about HTML5 Boiler Plate as well as other HTML5 starter kits here: http://drupal.org/node/878482

We are not using all of HTML5 Boiler Plate, just snagging a few ideas from it.

HTML5 Base looks promising

HTML5 Base looks promising but the This theme is not ready for use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sort of indicates that it'll be a while until it's ready ;)

I'm using Basic a lot right now, but the CSS in HTML5 Boilerplate is more attractive in my taste. I'll probably combine the best of those two worlds until HTML5 Base (or others like it) are ready.

Boron for D7

And similarly, if you're using D7, check out our HTML5 base theme, Boron.

Here's a good screencast

Here's a good screencast where Paul Iris explains HTML5 Boilerplate in detail:

New 3.0 version of HTML5 Boilerplate (I became aware via @mortendk)

Has it been incorporated into Drupal already, what are best practices?

I don't know of a theme that tracks its progress, because they use a boatload of MIT-only code and you cannot commit it to a drupal.org repo.

BTW, the boilerplate is a group effort made possible by all of these fine people :)

Boilerplate Theme

Hello all. I just released the boilerplate theme. It's based on the excellent work in Basic and Boron (Readme still has references to both :P), while incorporating Boilerplate HTML5 code. It uses the SCSS syntax rather than the HAML SASS syntax of Basic. It also comes with three default responsive design sizes. Here's a post where I talk more about it: https://www.metaltoad.com/blog/boilerplate-10-drupal-7-responsive-html5-...

It's my first contributed theme, so go easy on me.
