Event type:
User group meeting

Based on some feedback, this month for our regular meeting we are going to be holding a support / coworking workshop. Magda has done an awesome job and secured our normal room, plus 2 computer labs with ~20 computers with internet access plus some computers with presentation capabilities.

I have setup a feedback form for everyone to submit and vote on questions/topics for the support session. http://bit.ly/drupalseptsupport
* We'll take the top 5 questions and answer them as a group.
* Then we'll break off into individual groups / pairs and work through people's issues.

Please bring your work on a USB stick or have it available on the internet to use the computers. Otherwise, a laptop with your local environment will be great but we are not sure about internet for non-ABC computers

When: Thursday, Sept 16th
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm (Show up around 6:30pm for firm 7pm start!!)
Venue: ABC Centre 700 Harris Street, Ultimo ( Map | Directions )

Venue Details

The ABC Centre has some security issues, so it is important that people arrive early and sign in at the security desk so that we can take everyone into the building at once. Everyone just waits and chats in the lobby, so just look around for us if you're new. If you have problems you can call either of us. Many thanks go to the ABC for providing this venue.

Parking is possible at parking meters around Thomas street and Mary-Anne street. But they take a 2 hour max i think. There are carparks behind the ABC $15 (enter from Thomas street, but on the Chinatown side). Also, you can get all-evening parking at the Citigate (I think that's the name) parking station for (updated) $10 (starting after 5pm, I think, and stays open until well after midnight). It's at the end of the Thomas street dead end (Eastern/Chinatown side), which is very close to the ABC's back entrance.

Agenda:

  • Greetings and Welcome new people + Announcements
  • Group Support Questiong
  • Beak out support
  • Continued at the pub with + Drinks/food

Remember to sign up. This will also help us plan numbers/audience.

Future Presentations:
- See http://groups.drupal.org/node/46530
- How would you like to contribute?

Post below if you can talk about something (anything is ok, everyone has something to share) or if you're are interested in other topics for discussion.

Hi Ryan

The date of the event is 19 Aug and a mistake apparently. Please correct the date.

Cheers Ravi

Thanks - Fixed!

Thanks for pointing that out. The event is this Thursday, Sept 16th. The event in the calendar was correct though.

See you then!

Non-ABC computers and access to the internet

mkostrzewa's picture

Due to the security reasons, non-ABC computers are not suppose to be plugged into the ABC network.

I have tried to get my hands on an ABC laptop, but I had no luck at the minute. If need to be, I can try asking other departments if they could lend us one.

Thanks,
Magda

Hello

Hey guys,

New to Drupal here and am interested in coming along on Thursday night. Saw the Facebook ad and clicked through.

Did you guys need internet and a projector? I can bring my mobile setup.

Regards,

Peter

Welcome

Hi Peter. Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the offer of the gear. Our usual room has a projector at the ABC. Wireless access to the internet can be a bit sketchy because I don't think the 3G/WiFi signals into the building are that great. However, it appears that Magda has sorted out a lab with internet so that should be enough. Thanks Magda.

To the others of you wondering about Peter's reference to the Facebook Ad. I thought I'd throw a quick ad up for a couple of days to see if we could attract a few new people to the group, especially as it was a Q and A evening. 4000 impressions, 2 clicks and 1 sign up so far :)

cheers

See you on Thursday night!

Facebook Ad

dazweeja's picture

Yeah, I got the ad too. I wonder how Facebook targets these things? I don't have any IT-related 'Interests' and no 'Education and Work Info' and yet Facebook still knew I was a geek? Freaky. Do you select keywords to target when you place the ad Murray?

Targetting

murrayw's picture

The ad targets people 18 to 50, within 25km of Sydney who are into Drupal, PHP, CMS, Content Managers, Content Management, Web Design, Web Developer. Maybe I should have included Wordpress and Joomla as well :) Facebook does have an amazing ability to target people. Click through rates are pretty low though. 22,000 impressions and 17 clicks.
