Drupal 5 to 6 Upgrade - Custom menu translations

So, I am in the process of upgrading to Drupal 6 (took long enough to get OKs from the higher ups). I have been researching how to do a "smooth" upgrade. I have gotten our custom theme nearly updated, and other kinks worked out. We have over 6000 pages in our installation and about 1000+ links in our menus/sub-menus/role-based-menus. Now, making new menus for our 8 other languages is not very practical. I can switch languages on the pages just fine, but my menus have not updated properly in the upgrade process.

I have found that all the translations in the old table for localizer (Drupal 5) are there, but I am not sure where to start to make the translations appear on my menus when I switch languages.

Secondly, I am working with a translation company to translate our content and they want XML of our un-translated content. Once they translate it, they will send it back in XML and we want to put the correct translated content back in the proper spots. Any good ways to do this in bulk or easily? In some languages over 80% of our pages are not translated.

Thanks,
Jared

Hi Jared,

If you are using Drupal 6 then I recommend that you look at the Translation management module:
http://drupal.org/project/translation_management
http://drupal-translation.com/content/drupal-translation-management

This will give you an overview of what's translated and what hasn't been translated. It doesn't support XML export and import but has an interface to a translation service http://www.icanlocalize.com/site. You can easily send content for translation and it all gets put back in the correct place when translations return.

Bruce.

Thanks Bruce. Will

Thanks Bruce. Will Translation Management help migrate my current translations in the localizer format from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 at all?

No it wont help. I don't know

No it wont help. I don't know anything about how Drupal 5 handles translation so I can't help there.
