Creating From the Point of Content

With many of the businesses marketing on the Internet there seems to be a lot of emphasis on creating a handsome looking site, but to what end? Isn't the idea to convert visitors into customers? Without excellent content on the site what businesses are left with is equivalent to a brochure that isn't read.

The question is, how will the site be used, and is it designed to help the client sell more or have their business awareness greatly enhanced? If it isn't doing at least these two things, what is the point?

What I am inviting here is a dialogue to help us work more closely together between the designer and the content writer, for the benefit of the client and the client's customers.

Any thoughts?

WCM, Social Media, Content

Well yes! The website should look nice but it has to be function. This is where things get tricky just like nice writing versus content that is search optimized and relevant is better. Now there is more emphasis on engagement. I recently wrote this paper http://oshyn.com/landingpages/WCM-Social-Media-Content-Three-Kings-for-y... to start talking around a similar premise to your question. People often say content is king...but actually..now social media and WCM are other important kings...you could actually add mobile to that mix too but I see it largely being a part of WCM because a good WCM will let you create mobile optimized content.
