Nov TacDUG Meeting Saturday November 17th, 2007 12:30 UW Tacoma Cherry Parkes rm 105

Another joint taclug/tacdug meeting this month to bootstrap the tacoma drupal users group.
I'll be in Virginia for Thanksgiving but there's still alot going on.

The next Taclug meeting is Saturday November 17th, 2007 (third
Saturday of the month) at 12:30 PM. The main topic will be Linux
virtualization. The location of the meeting will be at the University
of Washington, Tacoma in the Cherry Parkes building room 105. We have
several exciting things planned for this meeting

This will be the first meeting held in cooperation with the University

Opcode Cache revisited

On Oct 20, David gave a presentation of the Lullabot topic on Drupal optimization. Opcode Cache was mentioned as a way to improve performance.

PHP is an interpreted language. This means that each time a PHP generated page is requested, the server must read in the various files needed and "compile" them into something the machine can understand (opcode). A typical Drupal page requires more than a dozen of these bits of code be compiled.

The next TacDug meeting is scheduled for Saturday October 20th, 2007 (third Saturday of the month) at 12:30 PM. The location of the meeting will be at the University of Washington, Tacoma in the Cherry Parkes building room 105. We are piggy backing on top of the TacLug group to provide a kickstart for Tacoma Drupal users.

SeaDUG Barnraising Preparation

During the September SeaDUG meeting, Jared suggested a great opportunity for a local barnraising project. We set the implementation date for November 10, 2007 - 11AM to 4PM, location to be decided.

A barn raising is a one or two-day event during which a community comes together to assemble a barn for one of its households. A certain amount of preparation is done beforehand. _{http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_raising}
