Drupal SoC student introduction post...
So since the acceptance announcements last week, you folks have hopefully had the chance to start poking around in the community, getting your CVS accounts setup, subscribing to various mailing lists, etc. (if not, make sure you read Robert's post here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/3621).
How about a round of introductions from the SoC students, to talk a little about who you are, where you hail from, what your project's about, what your interests are, how long (if ever) you've been working with Drupal, etc.? :) There are lots of folks in the community who are very interested in what you all have planned, and would like to get to know the faces behind the projects. :)

Since we’re just getting started and I’m the only subscriber... Hello? Anybody there? ... Anyone? ... Bueller? ... Anyway, since I don’t want to be talking to myself, why don’t we introduce ourselves?

What we mean by internationalization?
The goal of this group is something that we should define up front. When I write this text, Drupal 4.7.x is stable, and we are going to release Drupal 5.0 in a few weeks. Still Drupal 5.0 is only going to have interface translation services, supporting the display of the built in interface strings in different languages. There is an i18n module addon however, which is badly needed.
The goals of a truly international site are actually much wider then just interface translation. One needs to translate user defined items like menus, the site slogan, titles of custom blocks, even the site logo image. Whenever you start adding content to the site, you might want to add it in different languages. Sometimes you might need attachments from one post in the translated one, sometimes not. You might even need calendars to adapt to monday or sunday starting a week with different languages. All these issues need to be solved, and new issues will come up along the way. The goal of this group is to come up with questions, and ensure that we find adequate answers for them.

Hi all -
My name is Eric and I'm the Electronic Marketing Coordinator for the Science Museum of Minnesota. My main responsibility is the design and maintenance of the public museum website - www.smm.org. I've only been using Drupal for a few months, but am working on a complete overhaul of the museum website - which is built in Drupal. Thanks to all of Bryan Kennedy's great help (and a wonderful summer intern), it's not as scary of a project as I originally thought!
That's about it for now. I'm looking forward to learning a lo

Hey everybody,
I thought I should say hi as a long time (well 2 years and come change) Drupal developer. I an exhibit developer at the Science Museum of Minnesota primarily using Drupal to drive our Science Buzz website and as a CMS for digital displays within our museum. I am excited to see more involvement with Drupal here in the Twin Cities.
Although I am not affiliated with them in any way I know at least one other local web resource, Twin Cities Daily Planet uses Drupal for their sites. Well, I lo

Hi, folks!
My name's Angie and I work for Lullabot, a Drupal consulting firm. I've been involved in the Drupal community for a little over a year, and originally came because I was accepted as a Google Summer of Code student. I help out in areas such as documentation, reviewing/testing core patches, have done quite a bit of work with Organic Groups, and so on.
I'm not actually anywhere near the Twin Cities (I live in Montreal), but my family lives in Rochester, so I wanted to subscribe to this group in case there's something happening when I'm home for holidays and that. :)

Greetings, webcomic-y people!
There hasn't been activity in this group for a while, mostly because the people who started it have been busy, but I think it's high time to kick things off. I discovered Drupal a couple of years ago when looking for a nice CMS to host my webcomic, and the cloud of information I wanted to use to document the fictional world it took place in. I whipped up a very (very!) simple module called 'comic' that was available for download on Drupal.org for almost a year.
Along the way, I learned a lot about Drupal and got sucked into the community's vortex of awesomeness. Early this year, I started work on an advanced replacement for comic.module called, conveniently enough, webcomic.module. It's in a just-usable but still-experimental state, and it has a long way to go before it can really be the basis of a solid comic site. The purpose of this group is to gather insights from people who either run webcomics, are looking for tools to do so, or want to help build those tools. I know what MY needs are, but I want to make sure that Drupal has the tools necessary to meet other comic sites' needs as well.

Good day fellow Drupalites.
Since this is our first day as a group, I thought we should take a moment to introduce ourselves, and give a bit of background
on why we use Drupal, or if we aren't using Drupal yet, why we are interested in using Drupal.
I'll go first :
