Forum Module D8 Do we really need a new module, Forum-Access, to do what permissions should do for FORUM. If I wanted to stop anonymous unauthenticated users from seeing forum posts shouldn't I be able to easily turn that off for anonymous users via permissions or contrariwise, default inability to see until the role 'anonymous user' has been given the permission. I cannot find a Forum Module to see where to point this discussion so I thought it might be a good topic here.... Also put it in chat...

I'm currently working on Harmony Forum which is a native Drupal forum built with two entities (Thread and Post) with Taxonomy for categories should you want them.
That's the shortest possible description which outlines an entity based forum, a bit more in depth would be leveraging contrib as much as possible to produce something like Discourse (http://try.discourse.org). All whilst coding so that Views are used and can be overridden, display elements can be changed with Field UI and that there are plenty of hooks and chances to jump in and do what you need to.

For whatever reason, a self contained D6 forum module was never allowed to be included in the official modules but I've worked with this module quite a bit and I believe it is SERIOUSLY worth looking at, even if for just a basis or starting point or maybe even, if nothing else, a proof of concept. It can be found here: http://www.richardpeacock.com/blog/2010/10/rp-forum-drupal-6-module
It has most (if not all) the features all the "big" forums have such as:
Features (included without additional modules!)
Ability to ban users based on IP and IP ranges

Forum using Services ?
Hello,
A client of mine has a PHP-only site, and has relationships with a Drupal based site.
Now, they asked me to "semi integrate" the Drupal-based site's forums with their PHP site.
While I believe showing the discussions can be done using some XML feed from Drupal, they also asked me to enable creation of new content in the forums from their PHP site.
The first idea popped in my mind was to use Services, but now it seems that Services does not come with forum support "out of the box".
Is this a good direction ?
Is there any existing module that do what I want ?
Thanks,
